OWC sold me counterfeit "re-packaged" apple magsafe chargers. Looked totally genuine, but after careful inspection turned out to be a fake.

Turns out, they've been reported by many other people as well for this practice. I don't know about their other products, but their "repackaged" magsafe chargers were definitely counterfeit.

I got a counterfeit MagSafe charger from Woot, and it was in perfect OEM-style packaging. Even had a serial number on the cable itself. The main way I found it was fake - it's not recognized by iOS and as such can't get any firmware updates.

I remember when OWC was a legit company who was helping people get more out of their computers.

Is the counterfeit them being malicious or they aren't doing their due diligence on their sourcing?

Who knows? You'd think with all the reports all the way up to the attorney general and consumer safety organizations, they'd have stopped the practice. To this date, they are still advertising "genuine" Magsafe chargers "bulk-packaged" on their website. The lack of OEM packaging was and remains odd. I'd do a test buy and examine the chargers to see if they're still fake but I'm not going to bother.

I chat with an agent and told me, OWC bought from apple in bulk, keyboard are new but not in an original apple packaging. For me it seems kind of risky. Up to you.

I ordered an item from them in the past, and it did not come in OEM packaging. I believe many of the items they sell are like this, they really should be more forthcoming about this. They refused to waive the return shipping and restocking fee, and I had to go through the credit card company to get it back.

They claimed that they purchase items from Apple in bulk that doesn't come in retail packages...I don't really believe that so I don't buy stuff from them anymore.

I bought this around black Friday after looking up reviews about the website. They are a reputable Apple vendor. They have been an authorized Apple merchant for a long time. The keyboard came in original packaging and plastic wrap and it's brand new.

They're legit, a longtime staple for Mac users. No storefront as far as I'm aware so you probably won't be able to price match.

I bought this directly from Apple for my 12.9 iPad over a year ago. Adds a lot of weight and is of limited use so it's out away. The on-screen keyboard is good enough unless your iPad is your main device for entering text every day.

Best Buy is known to be able to acquire apple products in bulk. Same as Amazon. The refurbished you see from their website are from bulk sales.

You know who buys in bulk from Apple… Costco. I've never seen them sell something not in OEM packaging.

I won't buy from OWC anymore. Not even their docks or other non apple products. If they are willing to rip people off with fake shit they will cut corners with all their stuff.
