Not totally true. I followed this product for awhile. $50 is the true normal price. But it does drop to $40 somewhat frequently. Maybe every 2 months or so.

There are several reasons.

Easily switch between SADX modes (Switch, Apple, D input, X input)
Two programmable back/paddle-like buttons
On board profile switching
USB C
D pad is better IMO

the wired versions are $5 cheaper.

retro controllers needs to be wired for that full retro experience of tugging at wires and someone potentially tripping over them.

The D pad sucks on PS4 controllers. These types of controllers are frequently used for retro gaming. Keeping the feel close to the original product is important to users.

Wired controllers are great too for when you're getting your arse handled, you can unplug the opponent's controller for a quick advantage

Can't you use a usb-c cable with this if you ever needed to play retro games? This way you have both.

If this dpad is the same as the SN30 PRO (GB COLOR) dpad then I find the PS4 controller to be far superior to this one.

I have the SN30 PRO (Without the handles) and the dpad is way too stiff and clicky. It's either using a microswitch design (as opposed to a rubber membrane) or the membrane is just the firmest membrane I've ever used. Either way, it doesn't feel comfortable. Additionally the "accidental diagonal" issue people talk about is very real. I was shocked to find that if I press on the bottom right corner of the right dpad it will almost always register a down. I plugged in a SNES controller and couldn't do the same (nor could I on the PS4 dpad). This is shockingly bad, you shouldn't be able to input a down by pressing right, even if your finger isn't perfectly centered.

I still have the SN30 pro controller for my Linux emulation machine because it looks so cool and is great in every other way.

I'm always a bit wary of third party controllers, but these are really good. I have four - two wired and two bluetooth. Great feel and heft. Weird buttons on the backside of the BT controllers are a bit strange but you get used to them. 100% recommended.
