Some of lower priced dongles have to use apps made by people outside their company like veepeak. Bluedriver does their own software. They are frequently compared to Obdlink MX which has many fun things bluedriver does not like quarter mile timing if you are a race enthusiast It sells for $140 right now. What bluedrive does that many do not is that you can request it to do a full scan on the car which includes engine, transmission, antilock brakes and air bag errors. With many lower priced scanners they only show the engine. By catching my transmission error of p1811 early I was able to install a $30 kit to avoid a transmission death. My trans is 234K old where I have heard others die as early as 70K. I like bluedriver for watching when I have to get the car smogged it tells me all of the parameters are met before I go in so I am not refused. I put bluedriver on my amazon fire 10 and the graphics show up super nice and very big. When I bought it you could only graph 4 things at once in color. Recently they added 5 things in a free update. To me that is worth 50 more dollars. They also give suggestions with error codes of what to check for. Some suggestions are very thorough and others not so much. Personally I think it is a good value. If you don't like it from Amazon you can send it back up to Jan 31. My $.02.
Does this have any added benefits from regular OBDII scanners that go for like ~$20?

I believe OBDLink MX+ OBD2 has Enhanced OEM support like for certain cars, OBDLink MX+ provide live TPMS info like real time tire pressure which almost no other OBD2 device provide (since those are not part of normal OBD2 info).

Does anyone else know what other OBD2/device provide real time tire pressure for Toyota Prius/Corolla, etc?

I bought this like 4 years ago and I love it. It's saved me a lot of money by being able to diagnose the issues in my cars. It has a lot of useful information. It will give you the possible solution to your vehicle issues and even links to parts that need to be replaced.

Highly recommend this!

I bought this at the same price 3 years ago and it's served me well on multiple cars throughout the years.

It's a one time payment so no ongoing subscription and a big benefit of their app is that it's very well designed and easy to use.

There's even a portion of their app that seems to link back to a database of some sort and can help give more insight and diagnosis on certain codes depending on the make/model. It doesn't always show up for all codes, but when it does, I've found the information to be accurate.

I've never used Torque Pro but I've heard people having issues connecting various Bluetooth OBD2 readers. I've never had a sync problem with this BlueDriver though, works every time.

Also I've seen the Torque Pro's UI and I think BlueDriver's app is more polished, and gives you more information at your fingertips.

I think because its the only one that works with their app. So really it depends how robust their app is. They would of had to input all the possible codes for each manufacturer. Also there is no way the app can detect your car make and model so i assume you have to manually enter that like every other app.
Their app is really good!

It actually does detect your car make and model based on the VIN. You can manually edit the details but IME it's gotten it right each and every time.

I imagine it's using internet connectivity for this feature and also for the codes. I've never tried this app without internet access so YMMV.

My girlfriend's kid wants to be a mechanic but his current car is a 2001 BMW. Does the 2005 or newer model only apply to the enhanced diagnostics or will the reader essentially be worthless on his model vehicle? I still think there would be value as he'd likely be working on all kinds of different cars, but just wanted to get something that would be useful to him now too.

this is chrisfix "recommended" scanner. lol

this thing is going to show what is the possible problem rather than just a error code. If you are a "non car guy" this may help, but by googleing the error code and read someone else comment is much more useful IMO
