this is chrisfix "recommended" scanner. lol

this thing is going to show what is the possible problem rather than just a error code. If you are a "non car guy" this may help, but by googleing the error code and read someone else comment is much more useful IMO
Obdmx + is better than this imo

Some of lower priced dongles have to use apps made by people outside their company like veepeak. Bluedriver does their own software. They are frequently compared to Obdlink MX which has many fun things bluedriver does not like quarter mile timing if you are a race enthusiast It sells for $140 right now. What bluedrive does that many do not is that you can request it to do a full scan on the car which includes engine, transmission, antilock brakes and air bag errors. With many lower priced scanners they only show the engine. By catching my transmission error of p1811 early I was able to install a $30 kit to avoid a transmission death. My trans is 234K old where I have heard others die as early as 70K. I like bluedriver for watching when I have to get the car smogged it tells me all of the parameters are met before I go in so I am not refused. I put bluedriver on my amazon fire 10 and the graphics show up super nice and very big. When I bought it you could only graph 4 things at once in color. Recently they added 5 things in a free update. To me that is worth 50 more dollars. They also give suggestions with error codes of what to check for. Some suggestions are very thorough and others not so much. Personally I think it is a good value. If you don't like it from Amazon you can send it back up to Jan 31. My $.02.

I bought this like 4 years ago and I love it. It's saved me a lot of money by being able to diagnose the issues in my cars. It has a lot of useful information. It will give you the possible solution to your vehicle issues and even links to parts that need to be replaced.
Are the updates reliable? Bought a different reader years ago but it's no longer working because it doesn't read my new car... Smh

*needs some confirmation on details below*

My .02, when I was looking into all the bt obdii devices ages ago, I recall Blue driver was the only one that supported iOS, which is why many bought theirs and not a $20 generic one. I'm not sure if that's still the case today, but I still have my generic one from 10+ years ago that I use with Torque Pro and it's met my needs, I have always used an android device so that OS issue didn't limit me. I have also heard good things about BlueDriver

So will this do the electronic parking brakes? Eventually will have to and would rather plan ahead and have the tool for when needed.

My girlfriend's kid wants to be a mechanic but his current car is a 2001 BMW. Does the 2005 or newer model only apply to the enhanced diagnostics or will the reader essentially be worthless on his model vehicle? I still think there would be value as he'd likely be working on all kinds of different cars, but just wanted to get something that would be useful to him now too.
https://us.bluedriver.com/pages/compatibility will tell you what it will support.

Does this have any added benefits from regular OBDII scanners that go for like ~$20?
My dispatcher has it and he's saying there's a community with it that you can talk with other people who have the same engine code and tells you where you can buy the part to fix the issue etc

I believe OBDLink MX+ OBD2 has Enhanced OEM support like for certain cars, OBDLink MX+ provide live TPMS info like real time tire pressure which almost no other OBD2 device provide (since those are not part of normal OBD2 info).

Does anyone else know what other OBD2/device provide real time tire pressure for Toyota Prius/Corolla, etc?
From what I've read the Obdlink family has more customization with the option to buy functions. Does the tpms come with it or do you have to buy it extra? I don't think you could go wrong with the obdlink dongle.
I like the simple emissions checklist that bluedriver have for my every two year emissions test.
To each their own.

To be honest I haven't tested this on a new car. I've used it in about 5 cars years ranging from 2006-2017. A new car should be under warranty though.

I am glad to help. What I hope you will love is when you read error codes and hit System which gives you all the codes with the trans, engine, airbags, antilock brakes. Some of the things that could give a big dollar surprise if not caught early. If you like big views put it on your tablet and you will not want to use your phone.

Yes, it can access and reset vendor codes where OBDII-only ones can't.
The app is also great and gives you good diagnoses hints.
It has saved me $2000+. I highly recommend it.
