They are pretty sturdy. Not hurricane sturdy though. They are not plastic. Its reinforced PVC. Something that will last you 15-20 years easy. Sun doesnt decay the stuff.
You do need pretty sturdy and LEVEL foundation. Depending on what you wanna store. If the foundation is not level, peices will not fit easy (or even well enough to be sturdy).
Yes you can use 12x12 tiles. Imp part is to have the stuff underneath very level and something that wont sag or erode over time. So 2" of crushed concrete underneath the 12x12 will suffice.

There are a few diagrams in the instruction that it isn't clear on orientation on parts, so always double check how a part may be used later.
Pasted quick summary from last time:
Overall I like it. Good size for our smallish yard. Didn't warp when I stored it outside over the winter before building. No parts missing. Accessories are hard to find or expensive so we just put freestanding shelves in, but I'd like to do something sturdier. It fits a push mower, trimmer, a few freestanding shelves with gardening and fishing stuff, and a bunch of yard tools. Would be nice if it were paintable but most everything I read said to not even try. Generally sturdy but the doors feel a little flimsy.

You could level cinder block and build a wood foundation on top of that as an alternative.
