Aren't these types of mounts not good for car vents as they have been known to break them? Or is that a thing of the past and this isn't really a problem with these kinds of mounts nowadays?

I had one of these kinds of things for about a year and one of the ends wore out and I didn't have one for like a week and I was dying and now I have one almost exactly like this and it works great, my vents seems perfectly fine. Being able to pop your phone on and off and have it in front of you is just amazing.

Yeah. Happened to mine. I got another one that's not a magnet. When I slide my phone down the sides come in so keeps the phone in. No pressure on the vent. I haven't had any issue for a few yrs now. I do have a old car though. lol

never had issue with my vents on my q50. used a cheap magnet vent mount from ebay

It's to justify a ridiculous MSRP of $30, and to make it clearer for people who like to break car windows and steal things to think there is value in doing so to any car this is mounted in.

you can try the five below ones. I've not had much luck on two different vehicle vents though. Both drooped too much.

Hmm-- The other one I tried I can't find on their website. It was marketed magsafe and looked like a chip clip. Same experience though. MagSafe part was sound, just the grip on the vent sucked and/or it drooped. Gunna try OPs den chisel off dem blings wit my nailz jkjk
I use a ProClip that utilizes a magsafe charger for my main vehicle. This is just for backup vehicles
