I bought this off the Lenovo website almost a month ago and it's a monster. Just two things to consider when buying this.

This is the AMD variant which means it's likely got the Mediatek WiFi chip. There are new drivers that supposedly improve performance, but I bought an AX201 chip from Intel and it works way better.

The other piece is there's a critical BIOS update that may need to be applied that resolves random stutters that the laptop has. Apparently, it only impacted AMD-based chipsets but after I applied the update from November from Lenovo directly performance is as expected.

Overall, very happy with the product.

Solid laptop! I paid this price for the Ryzen 7 version and a regular 3070 gpu. Plays any game I throw at it smoothly. The screen is sexy too.

if you are doing something cpu or gpu intensive it will spin up the fans. In quiet mode it does stay quiet and often times will shut off the fans entirely.

Could you use a powerbank with it? If so, does it need to be minimum 90w or even 130w? Would a powerbank that is 65w work with it or that isn't strong enough?

Battery when web browsing and youtubing?

I believe it charges thru USB-C, so yeah, you could.

This vs the Legion 5i?

In general, Legion 5(i) pro > Legion 5(i).

For gaming, def this one.

It looks like the 5i has a chip (i7-12700H) that's about the same as the Ryzen with the same GPU. Any specific reasons this one is better? I assume it has some benefits because of the Pro in the name, but the specs have me confused.

I'm mainly looking for a 3D rendering machine I can carry around, so the Ryzen may win out because of the better multi core scores.

Seems like a good deal. The Perks at Work price is over $1800. I've been eyeing a Legion 7, but they can't keep any stock and have no reason to sell them for a decent price.

But will new tech early next year drop prices more?

The 12700 is a better performer than the 6900 by about 25% based on the benchmarks I saw.

I would pass on this. This CPU is not on my favorite list.

PS - 13th Generation is just around the corner.

I've seen about the same in every test/comparison I could find. There are a couple of tests, maybe 3d cad, where the Ryzen is moderately better in some that I've seen, but in general the 12700h is substantially quicker.

On the other hand, the Ryzen typically has better battery life, and supposedly better performance when on battery.

I purchased this model in 32gb/2tb from Lenovo a month ago. It would seem perfect for my use case. The 12700h version went on sale a week later, so I started researching and bought it as well to directly compare on my own.

In general, they feel about the same. I don't notice 10-30 seconds difference in processing something that takes 5 minutes anyway. The 12700h has been rock solid. The 6900hx, though, has randomly rebooted 2-3 times (I manually check for updates daily and reboot after). It's also dropped all of my Bluetooth devices out a few times, requiring a reboot(not just cycling bluetooth off/on). It's frustrating when I'm working on multiple things and have to suddenly switch to the laptop keyboard and trackpad, or have to save everything often in the event of a crash. I wish it weren't this way. It would likely be my choice, just due to the potential battery life. I have zero patience for issues with a brand new product at this point in my life, so I'll be keeping the 12700h.

Is it true antonline sells open box items as new? I've heard it about them, and some of their feedback says their laptops have oil or heat stains on the bottom

Hmm that's odd, I have the 5 Pro (5800H, 32GB, 2TB, 3070) that I got at the beginning of the year for $1200> and its been solid enough to do take over my desktop, I've been using it for my 24hr duty at work (military) and its been fine. It could be the lottery for some of the peripherals.

Highlighted in bold are the ones I got, while the ones on the left are the "better" ones.

What I do like about the AMD CPUs (have always had Intel gaming laptops) is it draws little power, less heat. I can put it in quiet mode and its dang quiet I also tweaked it to disable boost when not on gaming mode. And if you want even more battery life/office work then you just have it run at 60Hz (vs. 165Hz).

SSD: Samsung > [SK Hynix Gold] | WD Black > WD Green
RAM: 32GB Dual Ranks > [32GB Single Ranks]
WIFI/BT: [Intel] >>> MediaTek/RealTek
DISPLAY: [CSOT T3 MNG007DA 1-8] > CSOT T3 MNG007DA 1-6
GPU: XXXX GPU [Samsung] > Micron Memory

At least with the 5 Pro series I think there's a lottery with some of the peripherals while the 7 series tend to have the better ones without having to swap. Maybe that's why I have better BT as I replaced the the MediaTek Wifi/BT for the Intel AX210 Wifi/BT ($20~). The RAM you can get a little boost by going dual ranks with they Hyper X Fury DR but I've been good with the stock ones.
