Has anyone ever had problems by taking advantage of these "subscribe and save" offers and then cancelling the subscription after the first order? Does Amazon notice/care/banish customers to purgatory?

Have been doing it for a decade. They understand what's going on

Been doing it for many years.
The only thing Amazon is concerned about is too many returns.

Nah... people do it all the time.
They might send you a warning if you're doing too many returns (Specially food items)

I'm sure it is made up for by people (like me) that don't notice a substantial price increase in the S&S and also forget to cancel it until after automatically reordering.

I have probably done this a hundred times without incident. Sometimes the exact same product will give me another "first time S&S discount" again months later.
That being said I'm starting to move away from food and health product purchases at Amazon almost entirely. Counterfeits aren't good in any scenario, but I definitely don't want questionably made things on or in my body.
