That would be called a short I do believe. Explains why they quit working too. I'd think that's extremely rare while being somewhat disconcerting that it did happen at all.

Review pointing out "Great headphones, comfy, and all around great. But the end of the wire was so hot that you couldn't hold it for more than 4 seconds and it also didn't work after that after only having it for 3 days."

Was interested but some people are complaining about the metal mesh part of the earbud falling off and lodging into their ear canal. That sounds pretty dangerous.

Great deal , not too bad of quality if you don't want to wear a large headset.

Wow, I've never heard of the wires getting hot on any earbuds.

At this price point, I would personally consider the moondrop chu.

not everyone prefers the neutral sound signature. these seem good for their target demographic. also i've had 2 chus, one DOA and the other had the left bud die after a week.

chi-fi territory isn't what a lot of people want to deep dive into, esp when they want a one-and-done stocking stuffer for the holidays

In for 1! Pretty cool usb-c to 3.5mm adapter is included. Apple branded adapter alone costs $8. $20 is good price for earbuds w/ mic and adapter.

These come with a free adapter and are much more functional than the chu's. Plus alot lesser chance of a DOA unit + much better warranty

+ picked up another pair. Wish the HyperX Cloud Earbuds would drop to this price as well

Didn't know chu had such a high DOA rate, good to know. But with Prime, should be easy return.
I've been buying several headsets/iems for FPS gaming (valorant, csgo) but neutral sound sig is the way to go. You can hear softer footsteps much easier over bass heavy gunshots and explosions. I honestly don't know the sound sig of these headsets.
If you are planning on buying for yourself, instead of stocking stuffers, buyer should definitely look into chifi iems as an option.
I also tried Crinacle's recommended koss ksc75, which were also really good.
