I swear, when they come out with a newer version of this, no one will be able to get one for years.

Easiest the best streaming player in existence - and I've tried them all. Reliable, stable, consistent and still gets updates years later.

Really want to know how this rises above an Xbox One S?

I mostly stream youtube, twitch, and the normals. I don't run a NAS. I have an Onkyo and atmos speaker setup. I do have a 4k HDR TV.

What benefit would this give me?
Just keep what you have if it currently works for you.

Best benefits of shield Pro are to play from NAS/Local network, better upscaling (the 2019 looks amazing on my 77" LG OLED C1 and it's pretty good on my old 55 1080p Sony LCD from 12 years ago), and for passthrough and Atmos.

I have both 2017 and 2019 and found that I need to restart my 2017 more often - once a month - compare to my 2019. Attached to an older Synology 8-bay NAS with 16TB.

The problems with the shield are reality; i have a 2019 pro. They don't however take away from its strengths entirely. If you need lossless atmos streaming from a NAS and stellar upscaling for lesser quality sources, it's a VERY good unit.

I stand by however that it's not the BEST player if all you do is stream from apps - ATV (especially newer Gen) wins hands down.

The argument is use dependent but to each his own Smilie
You would think right? I bought the 2022 Apple TV 4k and while normally pretty good there is a software bug that causes the remote to periodically stop working for ~10 seconds, which is incredibly annoying. There's a lot of threads about remote issues on the Apple TV reddit. At this point I'm considering returning it.

The Shield is no longer King, get over it.

Amazon is adding TrueHD and DTS-HD to the 3rd gen Cube, and it has

AV1 support
VP9.2 HDR, and HDR10+ support
WiFi6E
Hands free voice control
30-35% faster CPU
IR blaster
HDMI in
30% cheaper

Why give Nvidia your money for outdated tech? Deprogram yourself, and buy based on specs not on brand loyalty.

But does it have Ai 4k upscaling? The Shield makes 1080/720 content look so much better on 4k TVs. Until someone makes a better upscaler, I'll stay programmed and loyal to my Shield.

Just look on amazon for shield remote. Original goes for about 30 bucks and there are some cheaper options as well....not sure how well they work though. I've ordered the 30 bucks one and has been working fine with the og shield device.
I want free hahah :-P

this is just for my backup. just in case for quick grab.

I use Logitech harmony automation to turn on whole my home theater system from shield-receiver- tv. recently adding led strip backlight on the tv back, I just create a scene for it
* run logitech harmony skill: turn-on/off shield, turn on/off receiver, turn on/off TV, set HDMI to port1
* kasa switch ($4 during Alexa promo this year) to turn on/off led strip (bough cheap led stripe no wifi functionality)
* set alexa scene to integrated Logitech harmony skill and Kasa switch

I used to enjoy all the freedom of android until I got older. Now all I want is something to work without making me do additional work. So I switched to apple. Can't say it's perfect. But at least I know it will work. And mind you I still use a windows laptop

This is pretty dead on. I have Shield TV that I use only for Plex and game streaming. Other streaming services are far better through the Apple TV. The consistency of system-wide behavior between apps (including framerate matching, dynamic range matching, etc) is just so seamless on the Apple TV. But for Plex, the bitstream passthrough, AI upscaling, and snappy interface is much better on the Shield TV. It's probably overkill to have both, but I found a used 2019 Shield for super cheap, and it's been well worth it.
you say 2019 shield pro is cheap for $175 hahah, I bought ~3 years ago for $180.
the price should be $100? yes or no? :-P

I just googled for their customer service email and sent an email that basically said....

"Hey it's totally not your fault and I'm out of warranty, and I'm definitely going to buy a new shield when they come out either way .
But, would you guys mind to replace my controllers that quit working a month out of warranty?"

They emailed back with instructions and sent me a shipping label.
They were totally about just being fair with me.
It was great.
thanks for the info

will try to send the email, :-D

I've had the Shield Pro 4K for the last few years to use with Plex Server and Nvidia Geforce Now. I've had to restart it weekly because it gets sluggish often. The bugs in this thing are frustrating. Random apps and settings would break out of nowhere. I recently bought an Apple TV 4K and it's been smooth sailing since. I use Infuse with Plex Server and its slick as hell. I might upgrade to the latest version once the karaoke feature is out.

If anyone wants to buy my old Shield and controller for $200 shipped CONUS, hit me up. Includes original boxes, AC adapter, etc.

That may be true but it gets pretty expensive to outfit 5 or 6 tv's

I think I see about 3 of these Nvidia Shield threads the last couple of days, and many of the posts started with this being a 3 year old model, and needs a refreshed model.

And that comment has been the same the last year, many are waiting for updated version of product.

Now it comes down to what you plan to do with this product.

Myself, I watch most of my stuff on my PC, and stream stuff from online sources, and play my media on a hdtv, or google 4k, Xbox series S, fire cube 2nd gen, or firestick 4k max, or roku 4k. And so I'm not a Videophile or Audiophile , so this device wouldn't be right for me at 175 dollars. If it was about 100 dollars for a 2019 media device, yeah I would buy this device. Just like I have all the other devices to play with.

We have many Videophile/Audiophile people in this thread, so for them, this is something for them.

If you are satisfied with just being an average media person, get something that does the job for you for alot cheaper. Smilie

I do have 4k hdtv's and my stuff looks great to me. So ONN 4k, google 4k, roku 4k, firestick/cube 4k devices, xbox Series S work great for me.
I did buy Xbox Series S for a little over 200 dollars and it does gaming too, and if I had a choice between Shield and Xbox Series S ... I would pick Xbox Series S in a heart beat. All the devices I mentioned have plex player on them, so it's all good for me.

The irony, I am currently stuck because my iphone decided it will no longer open my 2FA app, but my Android phone is still working fine.

I just wanted to jump into this thread to say I have tried about 7 different streaming devices, from full blown MPC, to a Fire Stick, and this by far has been the best one.

It has never let me down, and can integrate into anything and everything without issue.

I have had it do some neat things like control my Hue lights, to Stream my PC for remote gaming.

But it works amazing for Plex, Netflix, Amazon, etc. It never had any issue sending out proper Dolby Vision/Atmos/CEC, has features like controlling HDR, and a major bonus for me the remote lights up and even controls the power and volume of my AVR.

If mine ever broke, I would buy a new one at full price without hesitation.

I have a "2017" Shield with the thin remote with only a few buttons on it. Assuming new remotes work with the "2017" Shield, does anyone know where I can buy a better Shield remote (like the one that comes with this unit) fairly cheap? if you have a link, that's even better. TIA.

There are several "air mouse" remotes that typically have a USB interface. We've used a few of these over the years. We used a little USB hub to handle two of them. They often conflict with each other, so you push a button and it registers as two button pushes. Also they go to sleep after a short while and the way to wake them up is to push a button, so if you push a button it may or may not work (depending on whether it's asleep). Yeah the new Shield remote is twice as expensive but it has none of these frustrations (it has the problem that the Netflix button is easy to accidentally hit, but at least there's a workaround).
