I mostly stream youtube, twitch, and the normals. I don't run a NAS. I have an Onkyo and atmos speaker setup. I do have a 4k HDR TV.
What benefit would this give me?
Best benefits of shield Pro are to play from NAS/Local network, better upscaling (the 2019 looks amazing on my 77" LG OLED C1 and it's pretty good on my old 55 1080p Sony LCD from 12 years ago), and for passthrough and Atmos.
I have both 2017 and 2019 and found that I need to restart my 2017 more often - once a month - compare to my 2019. Attached to an older Synology 8-bay NAS with 16TB.
I stand by however that it's not the BEST player if all you do is stream from apps - ATV (especially newer Gen) wins hands down.
The argument is use dependent but to each his own
Amazon is adding TrueHD and DTS-HD to the 3rd gen Cube, and it has
AV1 support
VP9.2 HDR, and HDR10+ support
WiFi6E
Hands free voice control
30-35% faster CPU
IR blaster
HDMI in
30% cheaper
Why give Nvidia your money for outdated tech? Deprogram yourself, and buy based on specs not on brand loyalty.

this is just for my backup. just in case for quick grab.
I use Logitech harmony automation to turn on whole my home theater system from shield-receiver- tv. recently adding led strip backlight on the tv back, I just create a scene for it
* run logitech harmony skill: turn-on/off shield, turn on/off receiver, turn on/off TV, set HDMI to port1
* kasa switch ($4 during Alexa promo this year) to turn on/off led strip (bough cheap led stripe no wifi functionality)
* set alexa scene to integrated Logitech harmony skill and Kasa switch
the price should be $100? yes or no? :-P
"Hey it's totally not your fault and I'm out of warranty, and I'm definitely going to buy a new shield when they come out either way .
But, would you guys mind to replace my controllers that quit working a month out of warranty?"
They emailed back with instructions and sent me a shipping label.
They were totally about just being fair with me.
It was great.
will try to send the email, :-D

If anyone wants to buy my old Shield and controller for $200 shipped CONUS, hit me up. Includes original boxes, AC adapter, etc.
And that comment has been the same the last year, many are waiting for updated version of product.
Now it comes down to what you plan to do with this product.
Myself, I watch most of my stuff on my PC, and stream stuff from online sources, and play my media on a hdtv, or google 4k, Xbox series S, fire cube 2nd gen, or firestick 4k max, or roku 4k. And so I'm not a Videophile or Audiophile , so this device wouldn't be right for me at 175 dollars. If it was about 100 dollars for a 2019 media device, yeah I would buy this device. Just like I have all the other devices to play with.
We have many Videophile/Audiophile people in this thread, so for them, this is something for them.
If you are satisfied with just being an average media person, get something that does the job for you for alot cheaper.
I do have 4k hdtv's and my stuff looks great to me. So ONN 4k, google 4k, roku 4k, firestick/cube 4k devices, xbox Series S work great for me.
I did buy Xbox Series S for a little over 200 dollars and it does gaming too, and if I had a choice between Shield and Xbox Series S ... I would pick Xbox Series S in a heart beat. All the devices I mentioned have plex player on them, so it's all good for me.
I just wanted to jump into this thread to say I have tried about 7 different streaming devices, from full blown MPC, to a Fire Stick, and this by far has been the best one.
It has never let me down, and can integrate into anything and everything without issue.
I have had it do some neat things like control my Hue lights, to Stream my PC for remote gaming.
But it works amazing for Plex, Netflix, Amazon, etc. It never had any issue sending out proper Dolby Vision/Atmos/CEC, has features like controlling HDR, and a major bonus for me the remote lights up and even controls the power and volume of my AVR.
If mine ever broke, I would buy a new one at full price without hesitation.
the performance is a bit sluggish compared to my firetv 2nd model.
actuall was free ONN android tv that given to me, free? why not haha..
good addition for portable monitor for watching at the backyard or travelling with kids :-D, I add OTG cable with power cable for USB storage (fat32 or ntfs)
