I swear, when they come out with a newer version of this, no one will be able to get one for years.

Easiest the best streaming player in existence - and I've tried them all. Reliable, stable, consistent and still gets updates years later.

Not as popular anymore... and the price would be in latop territory anyway.

Better than the Xbox or playstation? This is the current cost of a Xbox one x which was a ton more horsepower and plays Blu-ray.
If you're running a Plex server, the NVIDIA Shield TV Pro has the best compatibility with media by far among the streaming boxes/consoles/tvs that I've used. Support for Dolby Vision, ATMOS, subtitles, and all the different codecs is superb on this.

I just picked up an Xbox Series S yesterday from a Verizon Wireless store yesterday for $150. My intent is to use it for streaming services. Would this Shield provide any additional benefits over the Xbox?

Why do I need this? Is it basically a fire stick with plex and nvidia cloud gaming?
If you're already watching your media without issue then you don't. If your looking for the best 4k streaming box with the best compatibility for different codecs and with ai upscaling this is it.

We have the Shield and it is a decent device, but has had a lot of bugs recently. If you're a hacker type you can do some fun stuff with it. Be warned though...since it is basically an Android device if you want to purchase a movie from Amazon Prime you won't be able to do it on the app...you will have to go to another system to do so (Amazon doesn't want to pay the Google fees).

The remote is pretty good and they do a nice job of keeping the device updated...and fixing the bugs that shouldn't have been there when they released their new system.

Is it better than a $30 Roku or Fire Stick? Only if you really need something special. For basic streaming there's no reason to spend this much.

Happy with my 2019 shield pro. Minor issue when playing DV contents. The color space is a way off.
Not sure the issue. Just turn off all my home theater and turn back on 🙈

It is still popular for home theater users.

We have cheap model from roku, and android tv selection. And cab not provides unique features in shield pro.

Especially if they can make it HDMI powered, and more powerful then the current TV PRO.

Even at $400, i'd buy two and replace my 2017 shields, haha.

Is there any benefit to this vs using an Apple TV with Steam App for streaming games?

Implying I rip anything lel. I am a software engineer by trade, building and maintaining enterprise servers and network appliances is a hobby of mine. I have a home theater in my basement, full 7.2.4 atmos setup and an 83'' Sony A90j and a 120'' drop down screen when we have numerous people over. Quality is paramount because you can actually see artifacts on 1080p streaming content at this level. My entire setup is automated at this point, I don't lose any time sitting down and scrolling through thousands of my own titles on demand through a 10gb fiber network. If a drive fails, I just pop a new one in and it repopulates automatically because I have a fully automated triple failover scheme. My family and their friends very much enjoy a full theater experience without leaving the house and my extended family enjoys having access to my server in the comforts of their homes as well. Paying for streaming services is death by 1000 cuts.
Enjoy it. I wish I could still do this.
