NVIDIA Jetson Nano 2GB Dev Kit SBC back on 11/1/2021 from Amazon for $59 before it eventually sold out which was no longer than 2 weeks later, and I also purchased a "GeeekPi DeskPi Nano Case" from Amazon to fit it in which costed $39.99 at the time. The Jetson Nano does require microSD storage to install software on it so I used a Samsung branded 256GB microSD ($24.99). The Jetson Nano is a similarly specced device when compared to a Shield. The Nano was recommended on one of ETA Prime's YT videos which encouraged me to buy one, but my intent was to install Android TV 10 on it (for content consumption, gaming and emulation) which I did by following this guide here [lineageos.org]. The one advantage the Shield has in my case is native remote control support and that it contains its own internal storage (which isn't much to brag a/b), but on the Jetson Nano you're capable of dictating its internal storage capacity according to the microSD card you use and you can use an air mouse or an Android TV remote app in place of a remote, and to take it a step further, the Nano has an additional USB port compared to the Shield. Yeah, you could say everything I've mentioned so far may sound like a bunch of hurdles, but the point I'm trying to make is that NVIDIA could do a lot better in its pricing and improving the specs over time. Case in point, I recently watched another one of ETA Prime's YT videos [youtube.com] again where he was touting a/b another SBC, the Orange Pi 5, and when I say it's a beast on Android 12, it puts my Nano and the Shield to shame.
S/N: I bought myself an Orange Pi 5 that same day for $91 in total when you account for taxes, shipping and the $12 discount using promo code "USNEW12" for being a first-time buyer 😁.

As a Nvidia shield user with 2015 and 2019 shield pro devices this is disappointing news and seems like this will be the last shield device they put out.
The 2019 version is nearly the same thing as the 2015 version. Its the same chip with a die shrink and clock boost. It has the up scaling added in while removing IR and microSD. Its still more or less the same platform.

You're paying with your time to research and set it all up. So its basically a wash money wise, its more if you want to tinker around and all that. For me it depends, sometimes I want to tinker but more and more I want something to "just work". I almost got the 5800x3d and was reading about undervolting it to lower temps and all that jazz then thought who am I kidding I barely even game anymore, I should just get the 65w 5700x and be done with it.
Was so pissed at them for 'neutering' the 2019 versions, storage-wise.
But will 2023 finally be 'the year' we see nVidia release a new/upgraded unit?
They were on an 'every two years' (i.e. every odd-numbered year) update path, prior to the pandemic.
I was actually fairly optimistic about the prospects for a new/upgraded model, at least until I learned about the Nintendo contract...

Another tip - they do use proprietary power adapters. I lost one of mine and contacted Nvidia support. They provided me a new power supply totally free of charge and arrived overnight from FedEx. Def nice
