I've had problems with these P3 drives. Phison E21T controller I think? Wouldn't work in my old Mac. Maybe they can eventually do a firmware fix.
800TBW means even if you kept this drive for 10 years, you'd have to write 80TB per year (220GB per day) to hit that limit. Or, from warranty perspective, you'd have to write more than double that per day for the TBW to be an issue.
4TB drives always had a premium due to packing so much storage into one drive, so there's value to that compared to a $60 1TB drive. Majority of motherboards come with 2 m.2 slots (premium ones come with more, for sure).
So yeah, this is a good deal. It's not the best of the best, but you shouldn't be expecting that at these prices.

For my use case, I don't have more pci-e gen 4 ports, they're only gen 3, so I'll take the $30 savings. Thanks for the suggestion!

What we have here is a high capacity SSD, relatively speaking, suitable as a secondary drive for mass storage on laptops that support two PCIe slots.
- High power efficiency. The P3 even exceeds the SK Hynix P31.
- Low heat, especially the P3
- Single sided so should fit in any 2280 slot, thinking thin laptops (I have an LG Gram)
- 800TBW rating is modest but should be more than adequate for a write once / read many scenario.
- Performance is more than adequate. These are not gaming drives but are not marketed as such.
Given the above, I think a P3 4TB at $250 is a great option if you have an additional PCIe slot and need the storage. Looking forward to see how Solidigm/SK Hynix and other vendors respond.Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank muchwow

The fact that both the P3 and the P3 plus are QLC drives that rely on HMB is a little unfortunate.
Anyone know how these compare to the Teamgroup MP34? My MB is pcie gen3 so I can't make use of gen4 performance either way,
