To avoid a shipping fee wait to apply the coupon code until after you select free shipping and get to the payment page!
Edit: it resets the fee at the final step. I added a flavor for 3.75 and it brings my total above 50 for free shipping.
Also, get 12.5% cash back with RetailMeNot
Edit 2: after buying this I've realized that it is incredibly misleading. You only get 1 cylinder to keep. The other 2 are basically on loan for 90 days. If this had been clear I may have still purchased, but as it stands I'm probably going to cancel since I don't like being misled.
Do they say it in the TOS (buried in lots of text)? Yes. Can I think of 5 ways they could have made this clear on their website? Also yes.

Do you get to keep the cylinders if you prefer to exchange them at a local store?
Can you just throw away the return box and keep the bottles? What is the $15 charge for late bottles someone mentioned above?
Does this bundle include 1 cylinder to keep and 2 extras to return?
Pepsi is more like $2 a 2 liter nowdays that I saw. And more if you buy 12 oz cans or 20 oz bottles as I do. Also, there's some convenience to being able to make as needed without going to the store.
That said if you want to save money and it's already been referenced, I guess you mod these and use scuba store CO2 that is much cheaper in bulk, and I read a tip to use sno cone syrups as well, presumably they are cheaper/better.
Personally I just got one of these and paid more $66 for the terra model and only got one C02 cannister (I believe the terra was on sale for 59, and some syrups cost 12 more, then some discounts=66).. As a longtime soda drinker and first time sodastream user, I was pretty disappointed. The sodastream branded base "Cola" flavor is actually kind of diet. It's 60 calories per 12 oz, whereas normal soda is 150 calories per 12 oz. Thats a massive difference. And it uses Sucralose, an artificial sweetener. And believe me you can taste the difference, it's nothing like real coke or pepsi. It's nice if you are dieting I guess, but OTOH a double edged sword if you are trying to avoid artificial sweetener. Also the carbonation is not as strong IMO as store bought soda, and doesn't last as long in the fridge either.

My one remaining question is same as yours if extra ones be exchanged locally or do they have to shipped back.

I think they try to get you used to returning and refilling cylinders to get you in their ecosystem, but will not actually do anything if you don't.
Also, for free shipping (7.99$ otherwise) of refilled cylinders you would need to order 4 cylinders at a time at a price of 15$/cylinder

This pretty much makes my decision a no-brainer...this deal kinda sucks because it's so confusing! Kinda feels bait and switchy!
What size are Sodastream Co2 cartridges?
I use the Primo system and cartridges are 20 oz.
