These m hynix Gold P31 are top rated for being the least heat intensive NVMe drives, great for laptops. I got the 2TB version to run in my silent built desktop it's already half full and get roughly 3000 Read / 3000 Write on my Gen4 x4 slot. Used to run a Samsung 980 non-pro 1TB before upgrade.

Great price for one of the coolest running and fastest Gen 3 drives available.

I put one in a 5th gen Ryzen Legion 5 laptop and it has been great. Very cool running and very fast.

I missed out with the Dell cancellation a few days ago, but I'm trying to get another NVME 1TB SSD drive for my game saves. I bought the recent $1,150 Best Buy iBuypower prebuilds, but it only came with 1 hard drive (NVME). The motherboard has 2 NVME slots. Is there any reason I would need something more than Gen 3? That sems to be a point of contention for people. If it isn't a boot drive, is a DRAMless Gen 3 drive more than adequate?

Just FYI (& I haven't checked specs aside from Gen3 & Gen4) but the SABRENT 1TB Rocket NVMe 4.0 Gen4 PCIe M.2 is $79.99 on Amazon right now.

I use SK Hynix on my laptop and Sabrent on my PC. SK Hynix runs significantly cooler and on lower wattage, and the speed difference is almost negligible. If you have laptop with gen 3.0 nvme slot, this is the perfect choice for your OS drive.

shocked this is the lowest price in 30 days.....Doesn't seem that great for a gen3
This is essentially the best Gen 3 NVMe drive you can get. If you have a motherboard that only support NVMe Gen 3 (like a lot of the popular ex-office PCs like HP ProBook/EliteBook and Dell Optiplex), I'd recommend this SSD. Even if you have a gen 4 motherboard, this SSD is still a decent pick, and you really won't notice a difference in speed unless you frequently deal with very large files. You're not going to notice a game loading 0.5 seconds faster Smilie. This SSD is good in laptops in particular, as power consumption is very low (you'll notice an increase in battery life compared to the stock SSD that came with the laptop).

IMO, SK Hynix is far better / more reliable than Sabrent, and in the same league as Samsung. Sabrent have many different products and rely on third-party components that aren't always the best quality. On the other hand, memory chips are SK Hynix's main business. They're completely vertically integrated (they produce their own RAM, NAND, controller chips, etc), have been around for a very long time, and are the second largest RAM manufacturer in the world (Samsung is #1). The majority of prebuilt PCs from Dell, HP, etc use their RAM.

I bought a WD SSD recently, but I'm going to return it and replace it with this one. The only reason I didn't buy it was because it was too expensive, so I'm glad that it's on sale (at an all time low price) now!

I have the SK Hynix P41 Platinum, don't buy this garbage card.

It's ridiculous fast but it doesn't support Bitlocker hardware encryption unlike the Samsung 980 Pro. Very disappointing that a top of the line consumer card does not support hardware AES encryption in almost 2023. Their site advertises it, review sites list it in the specs, but I guarantee it DOES NOT support Bitlocker hardware encryption.

Caveat emptor if that's an issue for u!

I'm going to use it with Linux so this is a non-issue for me (as dm-crypt would still work), but this is good to know. I didn't realise it didn't support this!

It's nothing short of being surreal that an HD of this magnitude and being so top of the line can't deliver such a basic feature.

So I was thinking about picking this up to use as an external drive on my M1 Mac Mini, but the reviews indicate it's not compatible. Anyone have experience with use in this application?

I have this in my Hackintosh. To use it with a Mac you should update the firmware. Not hard to do but you will need a PC.
