Dehumidifiers seem to be a disposable item now. Really frustrating

You think someone would engineer a durable dehumidifier and corner the market. Maybe it's an environmental regulation issue or a cost issue.

I had a 20 year old unit that wouldn't die. Was noisy and probably sucked down electricity but it was a survivor.

Same. I'm not sure I'll leave it plugged in 24/7

The Midea cube at Costco is pretty solid. Costs more, but it's higher capacity and if I recall, works for up to 4,000sf. Seeing some of the comments that weren't so hot on this one, so thought I'd mention what we got for this winter.

Pints?? Seems like a funny way to measure the capacity of a humidifier. Why not 11 quarts? Or 44 cups? Or 4,224 teaspoons??

My experience with AmazonBasics items have been lackluster as well. The quality is always poor.

That's the standard measurement used by the industry.

serious q. can someone help me understand why someone will need this or a humidifier? i have live in socal all my life.
Around here, they tend to be used in basements and definitely I would need one in my basement if I didn't have AC; it's very damp down there without the AC running in the summer.

Winter = No Humidity in the air in cold climates. Adding humidity makes the house feel warmer, keeps ya from waking up with a severely dry mouth, kills static shocks, etc.

Ask about swamp coolers next!

I live in SoCal as well. Our winters are really dry, especially if you have your heater on. Conversely, due to the lower temperature, the towels in my bathroom don't dry overnight in the winter because of the lower temperature that takes longer for water to evaporate. It's ironic.

Been measured this way for several decades. 'Murica! Why do anything simple and straightforward? An example of our half-assed ways that always amuses me is how Route 1 in Delaware is marked with mile markers just like most highways in America, but all the exits are numbered using kilometers.
