i just installed it... it's a glorified "filter" pack. You can adjust the intensity of the filter, etc... but there's no "AI" here. It's literally just different "Presets" like "Big City Lights" which just adds a warming hue and decreases the exposure while blasting the contrast. It's like Instagram filters, but in a program for your PC.

Useful if you don't have other photo editing software I suppose, but anyone expecting "AI" or any other kind of "magic" anything at all, this is ain't that. It's just basic color correction software with a bunch of presets.

FYI, this is more than a glorified filter pack. Yes, there are templates you can choose from to quickly give your photo a predefined look. It goes deeper though. There's an "edit" mode that has a limited number of AI sliders and many other non-AI sliders to make fine-tune adjustments. Just be aware that the functionality of Luminar AI has been largely replaced by the newer Luminar Neo, so don't expect many updates to the AI application. For a better idea of what Luminar AI can do, there are a lot of tutorials on YouTube. FYI, I own and have used both applications.

I've used both AI and luminar 4 and still have both. If you use the batch editing feature in luminar 4, you maybe disappointed with luminar AI as it does not have batch editing

you need to go to edit mode to try AI.

I have Luminar 3 and 4 (got it for free on SD), and liked it well enough to pay small upgrade fee to get Luminar Neo last year.

I loved L3/4, but hated the performance of Neo on my MBP. If I was editing a small batch of photos, it'd be fine, but anything more than that would make want to throw my laptop on the floor, so for the past 4 months just went back to using Luminar 4.

I know that AI was supposed to be replaced by Neo, but I'll it for free, in case it runs better than it's successor.

So is this a license code that they email?

Or do they just email a link to a file that doesnt need a license code to work?
in which case someone could just share the link for everyone?
Yes, looks like license code via Email (as well as links to download).

FYI if you're editing raw images, I found this software to start with a horrendous default compared to Lightroom. Skin tones aren't even close and it takes a huge amount of work to get them close.
I have used both Lightroom & Luminar 4 extensively in the past but not Luminar AI.

For what it's worth, I don't think that even the company advertises AI any kind of replacement to Lightroom but rather a way to do some quick edits on the files via "AI" help.

If you want more of a Lightroom competitor, check Luminar 4. It's no Lightroom (no other product is) but its decent enough feature wise (albeit not the greatest performance) than it might just do the trick for most hobbyist that don't want to pay Adobe's crazy high prices.

I was hoping they wen that route with Luminar Neo but seems like it's a better and more feature rich version of Luminar AI rather than a Luminar 4 replacement.

After install, when launching, there's no place to enter the activation code they sent. Instead, it wants you to log into your Skylum account. You can instead use Google, MS, etc.... where it wants permanent access to your contacts list, among other things.

Likely data collection, but also, it's not good. I got it just to play with it but it is unusably slow and buggy. I have 64 gb of RAM, regularly work in PSD files over a gig, and I can't get past the tutorial photos.
