Only if you used the H&R Block website. There was no tracking in the downloadable software, which is what this deal is for.

I read about this too, from a legit source, either NYT or WSJ.

It was the online filing, not the downloadable, installable software.

Why do they even call it "deluxe plus state" when you still have to pay at least another $25 to Efile state? As far as I'm concerned this is a scam operation between these tax companies and state tax collectors. I wish consumer protectionists would stop this nonsense.

I recommend anyone buying the software early go ahead and install it. I bought it early last year and went to activate it a few months later. I found that the activation code actually expired and I had to buy it again. So go ahead and activate the software if you plan on getting early.

Yes, it does cost quite a bit extra to efile your state return, but if you don't get the plus state version, it won't even calculate your state return. You can still print and mail it in for the price of postage.

Thank you OP, got the Premium.

While it's not a great deal, it's a very timely deal to have this software now and try a few "what if" scenario to get all tax moves in before the end of the year, like section 179, equipment purchases, Roth vs traditional IRA, 529 plans, rental property repairs and projects, etc...
