Crayboi, are these the "same" exact speakers from those reviews? It's hard to believe they're still making these exact same speakers that were introduced like 30 yrs ago. Pretty sure they were a Canadian company all those years ago, like Mirage, Paradigm, PSB, that all used the NRC facility to design speakers. I owned the original versions way back then.
Woah - blast from the past here, back to the days before kids when I spent far more hours than I should have reading about home theater equipment. Fifteen years ago, I remember going back and forth forever about whether the Energy Take Classic speakers would be "enough" for the room where I'd put them or whether I should get the whole Pioneer Andrew Jones-designed set and a BIC sub. I went with the Pioneer setup, but was always curious how this would have sounded.
I've had these for about 8 years now. They are absolutely fantastic for a small room. The sound is so balanced it blows my mind. Used to be paired with a yamaha rx-v377 but I've upgraded to the v381 and sound just as good. These are fantastic. I'm surprised they still make them.

Holy shit I was in the same exact boat. Ended up with these since the pioneers very massive.
Got two sets of these in white back at the onset of DD5.1. Still using them in living room and bedroom with the CRT Toshiba Cinema series... both tele and speakers just won't quit! Been 10-15 years and still going strong.

Under 300, i initially thought of getting two KefQ150 and two bose 201 speakers (from Marketplace for about 50) for rear and one center (polk or kef from mp for less than 50). Would it be terrible to mix the speakers? Like one set of company on front and one on back? Thought i would just pick the costco denon S760 receiver for 400+300+100 < 1k mark i may get a decent system.

Front 3 spks should match as closely as possible. Rears shouldn't be wildly different but just sound "similar". Even less so for any atmos spks.
Lastly, verify if u even need a center spkr. It's sole purpose is to anchor dialogue to screen for ppl sitting way off center. Sitting on couch between mains, u don't really need one. No center spkr means more $$ towards better mains and subs.
I picked up a brand new set of these for $40.00 on CL a few years ago just to mess with. Pretty much blows away any soundbar if you have the room and don't mind running a receiver. I grabbed an old Yamaha 5.1 receiver for $20.00 and run this system at the hunting cabin. It doesn't come close to my full blown home theaters but sounds pretty good for the size.

Home theater speakers would maybe be a more accurate description 🤷 ♂️.
