Update: Bostonyankee's suggestion about account managers (on page 6 of this discussion) worked for me.
My 12 month required service with Verizon(for previous gift card promotion) is ending soon. Probably won't stay with verizon just for this promotion. But if you're with verizon anyway, this seems to be a great deal.

Here's a message from Verizon:
We're almost done!
Netflix is included on your Verizon bill, and Netflix will no longer bill your previous payment method ($xxxxx credit). Don't worry, we won't use your remaining Netflix credit while you're on the Verizon package.
And here's what my Netflix account now says:
Included in your Verizon package
Contact Verizon directly to change plans, update your account and payment details, or to cancel your membership.
Your $xxxxx credit will not be used while you're on the Verizon plan.
Netflix is free until 12/14/23, which it then turns to monthly for $19.99/month. The Verizon subscription page says "If you unsubscribe now, you can still access your subscription until December 14, 2023." It will also not cancel the NFL+ Premium (if you care about that).
So it looks like you can immediately unsubscribe from Netflix, get it for a year, and not have to worry about getting billed next year.
