Over 10,000 COVID tests recalled because they may produce false negative results

These gave a false positive, which is FAR better than a false negative. Assumedly with a positive, you would isolate and then retest in a few days whereas a false negative would have you out and about while contagious. So impact...pretty low, which is why this is a VOLUNTARY recall (very important in the medical device world to have voluntary vs mandatory).
It's for a specific brand, Detect, that was shipped directly to consumers who ordered them from the company. USPS/US Govt typically uses Abbott's BinaxNow test or the iHealth test. CVS stocks QuickVUE, and Walgreens stocks both.
So if you were in the micro subset of people who directly ordered this test, you took a few days off (if you did, let's be honest) and...that's about it.
Is it good that the tests were wrong? No, not at all. But if you're going to have them go wrong, this is exactly the way you want them to go wrong.
