I believe they have lead-acid batteries. We have a similar one from Walmart for about the same price. There's a large warning label asking you to keep the batteries charged or else they will go bad very quickly.

Zackly. Same for the manual and Specification table on the Target page. That one mention of lithium ion is in error.
