Samyang USA has 20% off with coupon code HOLIDAY20 which automatically applies at checkout. This coupon stacks with sales prices. These are the cheapest prices I've ever seen for some of these lens. Discount is valid through the 25th. Free shipping.

Prices are for Sony FE mount. The 75mm and 18mm were down to $216 a few days ago but then jumped up so it seems like prices are fluctuating a bit but they're still a good deal for people looking for good quality inexpensive lenses.

Double check that Rokinon doesn't have better prices using the same code. Same lenses with different branding:

If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

The short answer is "worth it" the long answer is YouTube search Dustin Abbott
Like others said, check out Dustin Abbot or other reviewers for details but the summary is:

Pros:
Really good autofocus but not the best
Lightweight
Small Size
Amazing performance for the price (especially when on sale)
Really good image quality (not the very best but the very best costs and weights >4x as much)

Neutral:
'Cheaper' plastic construction vs. other lenses. But this also get you a lighter weight

Cons:
Anecdotally the photography community thinks there are more quality control issues with Samyang lenses. Or at least that there were when they started making some of these. It's advised to purchase them with the option to return if you find an issue. So test the lens out when you get it.
No weather sealing

Of the three I mentioned the 18mm is the weakest performer. The 45 and 75 are well liked and get outstanding reviews.
a lot of revews, just google the name of lens

If you are not doing professional works, for people just getting into sony full frame camera, what combination of lens (use with sony a7iv or a7c, etc) people would get and bring for things like below?
What lens people would get for budget? Also what lens people would save enough money to get?

1) yearly family traveling trip (could be oversea) and people in the trip are not photographers so they are not going to wait for you to take photos. Could be visiting downtown of big cities or visiting outdoor places (outdoor scenery like yellowstone, grand canyon, Niagara falls, etc), etc which likely involve a lot of walking. If involve oversea trip (or a lot of hiking), probably need to travel light in term of what we can bring during the trip.
2) few times a year may take video (and some photos) of some high school music/singing performance (indoor auditorium that probably sit few hundred people), high school football, high school marching band, etc from one of the seat in football field stand. May be video that cover the whole (or most of) music band, marching band, etc from the football stand/auditorium sit. Probably 40~50mm to cover the whole stage in front of auditorium (while in the middle of auditorium sit) and 150~200mm if want to take a closer photo of few people on stage(?)
Marching band field show, people could spread out from one side of 20 yards line to other side of 20 yards line. Someone mentioned probably need 20mm since 24mm only cover half the field(?) from top of High School football stand and shoot at f8 to have everything in focus(?)
3) take some photos/video of birthday, Christmas gathering, etc or even graduation (indoor or outdoor and more often outdoor now since Covid(?)). Just casual photos/video and nothing professional.
Read some posts in various forum mentioned in some building, college/NFL/etc stadium, including concert/event/college graduation happen in those places, they limit the length of lens you can bring in. People said some of those places allow lens up to only 6 inches long and they actually measure it at the door. So may need lens (for things like graduation in those auditorium/arena/stadium that normally host professional concert/college or professional sport games/etc) that is less than 6 inches.
That's a lot of different situations. And 'on a budget' isn't specific. Don't worry about lens length. That should only be for big name sporting events. They won't care if you bring a long lens to a graduation (and are you really going to be buying a lens that long?

Bang for buck just starting FF? I'd get the 28-200mm Tamron and a couple primes. Probably just start with the zoom and then see what focal lengths you prefer and want a fast aperture / smaller set up for.
  • 28-200mm: Covers just about everything and is very well reviewed. If you run into areas where you want more performance you can spend more for those situations. You can get it used for around $500.
  • Normal Prime: In the 35 - 55mm range depending on what field of view you want for candid shots of family in a compact package. The Samyang / Rokinon 45mm or a used Sigma 45mm are great options for $180 - $250
  • Wide Prime: Around 20mm if you want to try a wide angle - Samyang / Rokinon 18mm or Tamron 20mm are both good 'budget' options. The Sony 20mm f1.8 is a fantastic premium option
  • Portrait Prime: 75-90mm. The Samyang 75mm is tough to beat for price, performance, and size. The Sony 85mm f1.8 and Sigma 90mm are also both good options.

Sounds like to start with, probably should get Tamron 28-200mm and one 20mm prime (may want f1.8 to cover other low light usage) to cover those wide shot (like from top of football stand and video record most of the football field). And also those 2 lens are relatively light weight so good for traveling/hiking also. And for gathering like Birthday and Christmas party (I assume indoor and/or low light condition since otherwise should be covered by 28-200mm (?)), then can also bring one 35-55mm prime and/or one 75-90mm f1.8/f2.8 prime depend on what kind of photo we want to take.

Great suggestion!

I use the Tamron 28-200mm with the Sony a7Riii and love it. I use it mostly for landscape photography. I am trying to add the Samyang 45mm 1.8 now and waiting for a deal. That will complete my landscape/travel/portrait/street photography needs.

In the future, I can add a wider prime like 18mm and a dedicated portrait lens like 75mm or 85mm or 135mm.

The 135mm looks stunning but it's a big lens! I'll probably try to pick it up some day.

The HOLIDAY20 coupon gets the 45mm at Samyang USA for $260. Not the best price ever but a really good deal.
