That is kind of confusing then as the listing specs state:

The listing title then says FastFormat, not sure if that is referring to a feature of the drive or if that is the name of the Recertifiying company:

Update: FastFormat is a featue Segate drives have.

And then they define Manufacturer recertified as:

Talked to their customer service chat and they said they are recertified indeed by Seagate and that ServerPartDeals runs their own internal tests on top of it. That these drives are warrantied to have less than 50 power on hours.

Be aware that this drive is apparently pretty loud, as discussed during a previous sale here: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc...rpm_19999/

2-year ServerPartDeals warranty, NOT Manufacturer warrantied.

I had a lot of problems with Seagate but will use it as a second backup so daily usage will be minimal. Do not relay on them as a main backup.Price is unbelievable. In for 2

I wouldn't touch a new seagate drive with a ten foot pole, let alone a refurb drive. My western digital drives have all easily outlived the few seagate drives I bought. Denied my warranty claim the one time I tried too. Never again.
I had a similar problem with a warranty claim, that's why I am reluctant to do anything Seagate. But been many full moons since then. Maybe they got better....

You better be sure your not gonna return these before you buy. There is a 15% restocking fee for "changed mind" returns.

Return of Non-Defective Products

A non-defective product may be returned to ServerPartDeals.com within 30 days of receiving the package for a refund of the original purchase price with the following conditions:

The bill of sale or other proof of purchase must be retained to receive an RMA
A 15% restocking fee will be applied to all returns for refund
Neither the original or return shipping costs, the shipping and handling fees, nor duties and excise taxes incurred will be refunded.
No refund will be granted for products which have been opened, used, or tampered with in any way which jeopardizes ServerPartDeals.com's ability to remarket or resell the product

I can see how that might be the case. I have a friend that works in the movie industry and they will use drives like these to backup the footage to a NAS. Then shut it down. Each day they them power up, backup that days footage, then shut down. At the end of filming once they are done with editing they securely erase everything and sell the drives. I've bought a few of them before and I'm still running some from 6 years ago!

There's a lot of negative sentiment toward Seagate in this thread, and I get it. I lost 25% of my Seagate 3 TB drives within 2 years back when that was about the largest drive available.

There's one big difference with these drives, however. These are enterprise-grade. My failed drives were consumer grade. Unless the people coming in with negative Seagate comments specify Seagate enterprise drives, take them with a grain of salt.

Of course, refurbs and shorter, non-manufacturer warrantees are less desirable. Decide if the cost savings makes it worth it for you.
Yeah its pretty funny.

Just found out about server parts this year and I'm disappointed that I didn't know about them sooner! All their drives have been working good as new in my Nas. Highly recommended them!

Thanks for the insight. That makes lots of sense.

I just put 2x of the EXOS 18TB into a desktop. They are not loud at all. Very low spin noise and very mild head chatter. I don't notice them being any louder than the shucked 5400RPM drives I have.
I bought the EXOS 18TB a couple weeks ago. Mine are -loud- lots of the 'clicky' HD sounds that are audible and attention-grabbing.

I have realized that (for me) they need to be put to use in non-I/O intensive applications. For instance they would drive me nuts if I used them for torrents, but they are much quieter when just idling in my DS220+.

Of course this is location-dependent too. My Synology sits behind the TV. If it were in a closet somewhere the noise wouldn't matter.
