That is kind of confusing then as the listing specs state:

The listing title then says FastFormat, not sure if that is referring to a feature of the drive or if that is the name of the Recertifiying company:

Update: FastFormat is a featue Segate drives have.

And then they define Manufacturer recertified as:

Talked to their customer service chat and they said they are recertified indeed by Seagate and that ServerPartDeals runs their own internal tests on top of it. That these drives are warrantied to have less than 50 power on hours.

attached the screenshots below.

Be aware that this drive is apparently pretty loud, as discussed during a previous sale here: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc...rpm_19999/

2-year ServerPartDeals warranty, NOT Manufacturer warrantied.

My NEW way of using my 2 NAS is just to backup my stuff, and to transfer stuff I would like to watch during next month onto my MAIN PC which is on 24/7.

I'm still wondering if something like these recerts are good for only turning on a couple of times a month for just a few hours to backup/transfer, then turning off the NAS, so hardly any hours would be on this mech hard drives. No RAID, and have copies in other places so if one goes bad I'm ok, I got other backups.

Many guys use the NAS 24/7 and keep the drives on for months/years ... with more wear/tear so they do need good RAID to keep the server up and running.

I will continue to research best way to use NAS and save wear/tear on my mech drives.

I will probably buy 4 big size drives in a month or 2, so I do read your posts.

The subreddit r/DataHoarder seems to love these drives.

I ordered 2x 14TB's for my new DS220+ (sole purpose is to serve as our photo repository), but I'm unsure if I should just throw them into the NAS or swap them with 2 year old shucked WD 14TB's sitting in RAID in my homebrew NAS. There's probably no right answer.

Does anyone have suggestions on utilities to check for drive issues?

question for you, experts.
If you have around $500 budgets, would you buy for 6bay NAS - RAID6?
5x 12TB
OR
4x 16TB

I want to turn an old PC into a home server for Plex, Jellyfin, torrenting, home assistant, personal cloud, etc. How many of the 18x 12TBs would be a good starting point?
start out with one.....and increase as needed when you start getting 70% full start looking for a deal....

larger drives will always be cheaper down the road.

I bought one this morning early and got the old price. Then, I paid with credit card. The vendor will only accept Paypal for credit card which I did. Then, Paypal gave me $7; I'm not sure why. But hey, I don't question it if you want to give me money. I ordered a Usb case through Ebay for it for about $20. So overall a pretty good deal for a 12 TB drive. I'll use it as a backup for videos on an a couple of 8 TB drives.

I'm guessing a demand on these caused a price increase. Dang I wish I had ordered yesterday. 10 dollars more now. Wonder if I should wait till after Christmas.

My 14 TB Exos came today. It was very well packed: a box around a box with bubble wrap around the drive.

19 hours and 2 power cycles according to SMART. I am not sure that means much if they have been wiped.

Here is the CrystalDiskInfo for anyone interested

I just got mine. It has 0 hours of power on time and a single power cycle. Checked the serial number on seagates warranty site and it isn't covered by seagate directly(as expected). Looks good
