Ive had no problem with my 7950X build a few weeks back. Yes, AM5 carries a premium but I'm happy to trade that for a 5-year additional shelf life that I can then add a new processor to in a half decade. Even then there no 100% guarantee that my board will support a 11k series or whatever.

The 13th gen Intel may be faster but the 7000 series is more power efficient and you can enable an eco mode on the 7950X to 65W or 105W for nominal performance reductions.

That being said, there's great deals on 12 and 13 gen Intel bundurus so depends on your need and budget. I would do an Intel build if I was building a gamers value build. But also keep in mind the 3XD cache AMD processors are around the corner- but I think those will be at a premium. Research research research.

Intel innovating faster?
Intel is rapidly lowering its margins to ridiculous degrees to compete.
Technologically they are behind, using older nodes and packaging techniques and relying on less power efficiency.

tempting deals been popping up, but at this point I recommend to wait for Meteor Lake benchmarks and deals, perhaps they would offer better value for money for gamers.

I wish I could wait another year but I'm the type of person to build the best and use it til it's slow enough to annoy me enough to start all over again. When I built my x99 pc, x299 came out 6 months later which really pissed me off but I needed a PC at the time. Just like now Intel 1700 is done. But Intel always does 2 year cycles I think so it's not like and with the 5 year am4 cycle. I'm debating and Intel because it's better and cheaper but I could buy a AM5 CPU in it's last year and extend the PC life for a few more years. I'll wait til CES. Could have lots of price drops after new announcements make people want to wait for 3d cache even if it might be way more expensive

Likely to be revealed at CES on January 4 [amd.com], launch date could be in January or as late as March. Depends on what you mean by "ultra fast", but the gaming improvement could be better than the ~15% average between the 5800X and 5800X3D.

There will be a 7800X3D (probably called that), maybe a 7950X3D and 7900X3D. Probably no 7600X3D.

Not sure what program you use, but modern cpu has a lot of cores and power. Most people rarely use their computer to its full potential nowadays

I was just about to order a new MB/CPU/MEMORY combo, AMD 7700 or the next one up that 100 more, but most people said it's not worth the extra money for it. Since CES is around the corner I was thinking I would just wait and order the 3D version..

Memory the Kingston CL40 DDR5 2 16GB and not sure about the MB, I have a ASrock x370 now, it's been good to me, so I might just go semi between, the ASrock Steel legend got ok reviews, the same MB I have now is over 500 bucks so I'll pass on the higher end one

What makes this processor really good is that you can set the Power limit to 65W and it only loses something like 15% of its multi-core performance. That's insane in a world where power costs are really high in much of the world. I was on the fence between both systems as a developer since intel has some libraries that pop up every now and then but that kind of power efficiency is really good for me when I'm doing some serious compiling.

8000 series is there mobile chips. This is a steal over any Intel chip right now.
