It's a decent player and will play many non-US region blu-rays (but not all) without modification (unless there's been a recent firmware change that now disables it). Insert the disc. After it displays the region warning, press stop and then hit the top menu button twice (the first time it will give a "not supported" warning).

If you want the best sound and picture quality, 4k disc is the way to go.

My 10 year old son and I were streaming Rogue One the other day on Disney+. 4k with HDR. It looked great, but I told him I have the disc. Let's see if we can notice a difference.

I popped the disc in mid movie and we both felt the difference was obvious. The detail in the video was nicely improved. The sound was fuller and richer. The surround details were more distinct.

If you're a casual movie watcher who owns a low-end $500 TV then stick to streaming.

But for those of us who have a 5.1+ setup and a high end LED or OLED it is absolutely worth the money. 4k streaming is about the quality of a 1080p blu ray.

I've been watching this for 6 months now. It hasn't dropped below 199. Though people commented that it hit 149 a year-ish ago...

If you don't need Dolby Vision, I think this box is better buy than the Panasonic ub820.

Went for this ub420 instead of the ub820. I use a projector, which doesn't have DV, and the smaller footprint and half cost of the ub420 just make sense.

Same. Have it paired with an Epson 5050UB and couldn't be happier with it. It replaced a Sony X700 that struggled to play some discs straight out of the shrinkwrap.

The DV is what almost got me on that one, but I've read about people having consistent issues so I decided against that player. Got this one instead and it's been a very capable player.
