I've never had a AMD. How does this compare to I5 12th gen? Maybe vs this acer at costco... I see the HP AMD has 16 gb and Acer I5 has 8gb. But I was trying to compare the processors.. and maybe the wifi

It's a surprisingly powerful processor for such a low price. Very comparable to 12th-gen i5, I want to say. Faster than i5-12400 and even than i5-12600 in multithreaded performance. Probably slower in single threaded tasks.

vs 12400 the 12400 is faster in single but slower in multi-threaded. If not using a graphics card the 5700g wins. The 12600 is considerably faster in single and multi but also more expensive.

This CPU has good single-core performance, which is helpful for Minecraft Java Edition. The desktop has limited expansion capabilities too, but it can't fit a 2.5" SATA, even though many laptops can. Free two-day delivery is appreciated.

I almost got this other HP Desktop for $390, which has even better single-core performance, but the shipping after Christmas.

Yeah, not a stellar deal for a HP. I would avoid because of just how proprietary they can be causing a limited upgrade path. I bought a similar form factor hp for my nephew, and he is pretty much stuck with a board powered GPU since the power supply has its own proprietary pin out. No doubt going aftermarket you get superior quality parts too!

I can confirm this works. I purchased this computer when it came out for about $100 more than this cost. Here's what I can tell you:

I purchased this with the intention to rob the computer of the RAM, CPU, and SSD and rehome in a different box. This has to be done because the motherboard is custom and absolutely not going to fit in any off the shelf pc case. The PSU is more powerful than it needed to be to my recollection but it has only one extra SATA connector so that's out as well.

Rehoming the parts worked like a charm. The RAM is a single stick and easily overclocked in a the BIOS of my machine. I bought another cheap 16GB stick and that's what I've been running ever since.

I recently ran out of space on my SSD so I moved the OS to another NVME SSD and the machine still works fine.

Overall it's been an awesome APU - got me through the GPU shortage no problems. It runs shockingly cool while gaming with an Evo 212.
