At this price-point, seems you'd at least get a 300 or 350 nits plus better ntsc display.

What they keep not telling you is the price may drop with Affirm, i got approved and was going to buy this yesterday but the interest in the payments bumps the price up higher even if you pay all at once. anyway to NOT do that? lol I would jump on this right now if i could get it without the stupid payment plan BS for $512+tax

You can pay off the affirm loan once it's approved. No prepayment penalty and no interest

I have this:
https://slickdeals.net/e/13628773-lenovo-ideapad-s340-laptop-i7-1065g7-15-6-1080p-8gb-ram-256gb-ssd-450-free-shipping

How much better will the OP screen be? I realize it's IPS vs TN, but looks like the nits aren't much higher.

Is there a better alternative in this price range?

How are you guys getting no interest with Affirm? On my end affirm never made sense with their high interest rates

Exactly. I only get high interest rate options and no options to pay off sooner with no interest I want this laptop and this price but the hoops and interest rates kill the deal.

What's up with such bad color gamut screen and the 720p webcam. In 2023 you need a better screen and web cam. Not deal breaker but for the price they could have atleast given a better screen

Both have ~45% NTSC but the IPS screen has a much higher contrast ratio, which makes the colors look a lot better. Also the viewing angles.

What does that mean? For decades, to me NTSC meant a TV video format, vs PAL, etc.

45% NTSC color gamut, which is common in a metric ton of laptops, translates to roughly ~64% sRGB.

sRGB is the de facto standard color space for the entire internet, screens, printers, computer monitors, et cetera. Since nearly everything is made towards sRGB, not being able to reproduce 100% of it means colors will look a little duller and sometimes just plain wrong (orange tint instead of a solid red, or some shades of purple and blue looking the exact same, for instance). However, since your laptop and OP's laptop both have 45% NTSC, OP's laptop will actually look a lot better because it is IPS*

*this is true for laptops because screen manufacturers have not made decent TN laptop screens for nearly a decade. All of the TN screens in laptops currently are MUCH worse than a typical TN screen that goes in an office monitor. I don't know the technical reason for this but it seems to be related to the panel manufacturers cheaping out on the polarizer and dedicating their efforts to cheap IPS screens instead
