The ALP has accelerometers to detect and react to physical nudging in two dimensions, and includes haptic feedback so you not only feel the reaction of the pinball to the table as it's bouncing around, but also to your nudging. I own three physical machines, two electro-mechanical and one solid state, and the ALP is a fairly faithful digital representation of what playing a physical machine is like.
It has its limits, but as a digital representation of a real-world machine, it's a damn fine approximation.

there's a board to allow the backboard monitor to HDMI and getting a bitpixel completes the "look and feel" for a pinball fx 3 dreambox!

Tl;dr, this machine (ALP) plus the optional controller hardware, gives you full pinball AND arcade gameplay for roughly the same price as just the ALU video console.

Regularly $730, on sale now for $530, but reportedly on local clearance for ~$300 (YMMV of course, depends on your club).
You can sideload the same games on the ALP machine as you can the ALU, with the pinball "table" becoming the video game screen. You end up with significantly larger video real estate, as the table screen is ~15"W x ~26"H, where as the ALU display is 24" (diagonal). And, of course, its a native pinball table, which is a huge plus IMO.
IMO he biggest downsides to getting an ALP for video game play are:
- The ALP display is portrait (it's a pinball table after all), so side scrolling games will be squished. However, as the ALU has a landscape display, vertical games will also be squished - whether this is a problem depends on which type of video games you play more often.
- The table does NOT come with video game controls. If you want this to be a dual-duty machine, you'll need to buy their Arcade Control Panel [atgames.us] (reg $200, on sale now for $110, has been on sale twice annually for $99). This add a joystick, trackball, and 6-button controller for video game play.
- With the Control Panel, it's still a 1-player game. No simultaneous 2+ player options.
I paid full price in August 2021 and got the Control Panel during NOD that fall for $99. Have been very very happy with the setup. I play more pinball (70%) than video games (30%), so YMMV, but if the ALP is on local clearance, you can get it and the Panel for ~$400 if you're patient - and you'll have a ton of gameplay options.
