Memory isn't soldered. You can upgrade both sticks.

Laptop rubber fit came off on a second month, so I had to replace them with generic ones. Fan is making high pitched whistling noise, which is annoying. HP software doesn't allow to change charging settings for your battery, so it will have to be replaced sooner. Hinge is getting weaker, not sure how long it will last. I purchased Lenovo Ideapad 5 for my mother. In my opinion it's a better laptop.

I own(ed) three x360 Envys (4700U which I donated, 5700U, and 5800U) and like them all. I haven't experienced hinge issues or loose rubber pads as described. Then again, I baby my laptops. I also owned an Ideapad 5 (4700U) in the past (sold to a colleague) and think that the build is clearly inferior to the solid Envys!

And yes, the x360s can be upgraded to 32 GB RAM (haven't tried 64 GB yet) since they use SODIMMs, but access to the internals is not as user-friendly.

I have not experienced any coil/fan whining either. In fact, if you're just browsing or doing office work, the fan barely turns on.

I do agree though, that unlike other brands (I also own 3 LG Grams amongst other laptops), the battery cannot be configured to charge to only 80% to extend the battery life.

Just be aware that the newer Envys do not come with a Numpad on the side anymore - if that's important for you.

This is an all-around mid-range laptop for the masses. Perfect for seniors, students, and older children who appreciate the nice features this laptop provides. Only the power user, designer, or heavy gamer would be disappointed. I'd enjoy it.

Anybody know if ChromeOS Flex will work well on here? Don't see it on the certified list.

Average screen with a good processor, but memory is probably soldered with no extra slot. Rest of laptop is pretty decent port wise. Has a backlit keyboard.

If they would just stop soldering all the memory or at least leave one open slot, I'd be willing to buy some of these laptops.

How's the build on Envys? Is it superior or inferior to pavilion? Also is this chip an equivalent to the 12th gen intels? Which Intel chip would this be equal to? Thanks

I have this laptop with previous generation of AMD cpu. I would not recommend it. Regret not getting Lenovo laptop instead.

What do you not like about it? I'm considering getting this for a senior citizen and have been looking at similar laptops with touchscreen, backlit keyboard, and windows OS.

Interestingly both this and the Lenovo Yoga 6 that's currently $449 have freesync displays with freesync range from 40-60hz. You can enable it in Radeon software. It's off by default on the Envy for some reason. Will make games run a bit smoother and if it's similar to how gsync works on my desktop it should save some power too when idling.

Thanks, the IdeaPad 5 is the other one I was looking at from Costco right now for about $650. Much appreciated!

Man, this is literally what's happened to mine as well. Definitely not getting another HP anytime soon.

The fan can be fixed by buying a replacement on ebay if it sounds weird. But the keyboard it is hard to see the letter, either silver one or dark one. It is HP signature.
