From the RTINGS Review

Compared to Sonos One SL
The IKEA SYMFONISK Bookshelf speaker and the Sonos One SL are similar speakers. The Sonos is smaller and has a more neutral-sounding sound profile. However, the IKEA can get slightly louder than the Sonos with fewer compression artifacts present at max volume, so your audio sounds clearer during louder listening sessions.

He means the actual surround setup, which is limited to the sound bar, two surrounds and a sub (or two subs). You can add as many of these to your house as you want, but each surround sound setup is limited.

Can't add more to your surround setup.

Cheapest way to experience the joy of Sonos sound (aside from refurbs).

BTW, owners, how do these compare to PLAY:1 s?

These almost never go on sale. Sure it's only 20 off but that's as good as it's going to get. Additionally this is the cheapest way to get a Sonos setup.
I believe the original price was $99
before they raised it since the pandemic
So $95 is a good deal I guess

Hopefully one day Sonos can let us use these or the 1s as left and right channel to complement the arc/beam along with rears.

If I have two of these (paired with a beam and sub) working as side speakers, does it make sense to add one more as a rear?
Hmm, I'm curious now. When your existing ikea speakers are paired with your beam, how are they designated in the Sonos app system section, are they "LS" and "RS" or are they designated with something else? I thought the added speakers to a Beam/Arc were only acting as rears, not necessarily sides.

Yep, these symfonisks are added in the Sonos app as L and R channel speakers

It wouldn't be a stereo pair, but they can play the same music. You should just buy 2 of these

I ended up returning mine because my Sonos Move had gobs more bass that could fill my kitchen/dining room that a pair of symfonisks couldn't even touch in the same area even after adjusting sound options in the app.

To answer your question, they both support airplay and should be able to be set to the same room in the sonos app.

I put a couple in a closet and ran 4 wire speaker cable to 2 x 2way ceiling speakers. Then I used the Sonos tune feature. they look and sound great! I also mounted one on my 10x12 back porch (not weather proof but centered against house). And a couple in bedrooms, and 2 paired with beam in media room. These sound great and are easy to use #WifeApprovalFactor

^ this. I know these speakers are great at this price point and a great way to add to the Sonos ecosystem but these were announced at $99 prepandemic.

I don't know how to quote everyone with questions so I'll try my best to answer some here. I have a sonos beam as my soundbar to my living room tv, two symfonisk speakers paired with the beam as surrounds, hacked the rear right one to be able to attach an external 12" sub, 2 x sonos play:1's in two separate rooms, a play:3 in my kitchen, 2x ones in other rooms, and a single symfonisk also hacked to add a Polk 10" sub to that for the screen room. Everything plays AWESOME. Beats anything Bose could do especially with ease of playing from streaming sources. The ones I have have mics built in for alexa integration and the one sl are the same speaker without mics. As far as sound goes, I cannot distinguish a difference between the symfonisk bookshelf speaker vs the play:1s nor the ones. The sonos speakers sound clearer at higher volumes to me but that could just be me. I absolutely love the fidelity of sonos' speakers. I am looking to move my beam to my bedroom and replace the living room with the arc, a sonos sub and two one sl's to be the surround system. That'll free up the other speakers move to other rooms for more all-encompassing music for the whole house. I hope this helps anyone with questions and feel free to ask any more that I haven't answered.

These speakers are great, have 2 paired with a Sonos Beam Gen 2. But heads up DO NOT get the wireless charging shelf. The QI charger on it is a piece of junk.

They're there without the capital "S"? Possibly indicating operating as surround.
