From the RTINGS Review

Compared to Sonos One SL
The IKEA SYMFONISK Bookshelf speaker and the Sonos One SL are similar speakers. The Sonos is smaller and has a more neutral-sounding sound profile. However, the IKEA can get slightly louder than the Sonos with fewer compression artifacts present at max volume, so your audio sounds clearer during louder listening sessions.

He means the actual surround setup, which is limited to the sound bar, two surrounds and a sub (or two subs). You can add as many of these to your house as you want, but each surround sound setup is limited.

Can't add more to your surround setup.

These speakers are great, have 2 paired with a Sonos Roam Gen 2. But heads up DO NOT get the wireless charging shelf. The QI charger on it is a piece of junk.

I don't know how to quote everyone with questions so I'll try my best to answer some here. I have a sonos beam as my soundbar to my living room tv, two symfonisk speakers paired with the beam as surrounds, hacked the rear right one to be able to attach an external 12" sub, 2 x sonos play:1's in two separate rooms, a play:3 in my kitchen, 2x ones in other rooms, and a single symfonisk also hacked to add a Polk 10" sub to that for the screen room. Everything plays AWESOME. Beats anything Bose could do especially with ease of playing from streaming sources. The ones I have have mics built in for alexa integration and the one sl are the same speaker without mics. As far as sound goes, I cannot distinguish a difference between the symfonisk bookshelf speaker vs the play:1s nor the ones. The sonos speakers sound clearer at higher volumes to me but that could just be me. I absolutely love the fidelity of sonos' speakers. I am looking to move my beam to my bedroom and replace the living room with the arc, a sonos sub and two one sl's to be the surround system. That'll free up the other speakers move to other rooms for more all-encompassing music for the whole house. I hope this helps anyone with questions and feel free to ask any more that I haven't answered.
Care to share the hack detail to get the standard subwoofer in? I'm currently using an onkyo amplifier to add yamaha sub. I connected thru HDMI ARC to TV. Works great but I have to turn on both TV and amplifier to use the sub. This setup not as flexible as your hack.

Found this on YouTube, I followed something similar: https://youtu.be/TiPPPu7j5DM

Not sure about your setup and integrating the synfonisk to your setup, I like that the sonos ecosystem doesn't require an external amplifier/receiver but that it's all controlled via an app on your phone or ipad.

Can I pair one of these with a Sonos move? Looking to create a more full sound in our kitchen / adjoined living room
You can group them but 1 won't act as a l/r channel pair with the Move. We have two of these and a Roam in our downstairs and they work well. They act as the l/r channels and the Roam just adds more space and volume.

Thanks for that link, I had no idea of this until this thread. When the other user mentioned this, I had hoped there easy an easy pre-amp frequency rigging, but this might be all that we can get.

I'm just kinda surprised that whee little SYMFONISK amp could adequately power a dedicated sub. Thoughts?

These go great with the beam gen 2. At this point though, maybe Sonos might release a new version. I'm not sure if it's related, but I did notice they dropped a sale then released an updated version of their Ikea lamp/speaker.

It's not powering the sub, the sub's amp does that. If your sub doesn't have the ability to handle a powered signal from the SYMFONISK, you can get a converter for $15 to to the job: (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/metr...d=1265702) . It converts the speaker level output from the Sonos and lowers to line-level for the powered sub.

I followed this guy's very detailed instructions on YT and used with a Jamo 8" sub found on SD that had the right form factor for my living room.

I can 2nd this mod - I did it before finding a used Sonos sub on CL for a great deal. The Sonos Sub + Symfonisk is a much better combo, but for the $, the (any) powered sub + Symfonisk is pretty awesome.

These speakers are so, so awesome for the $. It's a shame they are a volumetrically odd shape - they don't fit in a corner well, and are surprisingly tall and deep. They're perfect if you can lay them flat somewhere, or put them on a bookshelf. Grouped and paired they make for great "sound everywhere" speakers.

Agreed, it was an instant turn off when I saw them in person. The lamp was way more functional and I didn't mind overpaying for more function and aesthetics.
