If you are a first timer to iTunes or now what is becoming AppleTv, Apple has always had the stance that you either buy movies in the lowest quality or the highest- there is no middle ground except for Disney movies (which this is not), and one other studio I believe… So HD and UHD (4k) is viewed as high quality in Apple's eyes, and they will give you access to the highest quality they have even if you only paid for HD (as long as their contract with the studio allows it, and you purchased through Apple). All the movies I bought through Apple (with few exceptions noted above) as HD have been automatically upgraded to UHD.
Apple has never touted they "pay" for you to upgrade- here is the clipped version of the keynote where they announced it. Look at minute mark 2:30.

The only continuation of these stories, set in the same world as the films, that I could see happening would be an attempt by Paramount to transition the franchise into a gritty streaming show on Paramount+ in a attempt to wring every drop from the Mission Impossible money towel.
After this, a reboot of the franchise in the form of all new films (or adapted streaming series/reboot) is most likely some time around 2030 I would bet (if not longer). Tom Cruise has been a producer on every one of these films but Paramount still owns the rights and I read something about there being tension between the actor and company lately. It would be interesting to know if there is a contractual timeline that they have before they can begin to work on making any new Mission Impossible franchise specific projects. They will be pulling in revenue for these films for decades to come but it is rare that a franchise like this comes along that the studios don't milk it for everything it is worth. After enough time goes by, I'm sure they will push new material out because it would be bad business not to but at the end of the day, these 8 films appear to be the end of this particular series.

Mission Impossible isn't James Bond. The franchises have traditionally been utilized in different ways. However, with different actors playing James Bond, there is a trend of a fresh continuity. For example, if you type into Google, "James Bond Daniel Craig bundle", the studio released the 5 film bundles because Craig's portrayal was its own entity outside of other Bond movies (even more obvious if you actually watched the movies).
James Bond has set a precedent of replacing the Bond actor to tell new stories based on book characters. The Mission Impossible franchise has never done this in almost 30 years and 8 feature films that are based off a TV show.
So, you can make your snarky comments because you think it is an obvious comparison but the fact of the matter is, there is no comparison to make between the two franchises that would actually support your point, making it nonsensical in nature. Your logic is that because the James Bond franchise does something, it is obvious that the Mission Impossible franchise will do the same thing. You tried to make me sound dumb for pointing out that this is not the case but really, the two entities are from different source materials, different studios, and different historical precedents as to how they have been handled. The only similarity I can see is that they are over-the-top spy action films but that is about where the comparisons between the two franchises end and it doesn't support your point.
It's ok to be wrong. Just think next time and don't feel the need to retaliate. I wasn't trying to be a jerk in my original comment but you felt the need to take it defensively.
