Most Z690 boards need a BIOS update to support 13th gen processors (Intel 13XXXX). However, to access the BIOS, you traditionally need a supported CPU on the board. So you'd have to have a 12th gen CPU around just to update the BIOS.

With flashback, USB flash drive BIOS updates are supported, so you don't need an old CPU available if you're going 13th gen.

"USB BIOS Flashback allows you to easily update the BIOS without entering the BIOS or operating system. Just connect the USB storage device containing the BIOS file into the USB port, press USB BIOS Flashback button for three seconds, and the BIOS is updated automatically."

you're in the minority opinion with that one. DDR5 benefit is currently nominal and RAM/boards are pricey. DDR4 memory is fully optimized at this point and way cheaper.

Get a 13th gen processor now, and a few years from now when DDR5 gets more efficient and affordable, you can keep the processor and upgrade the board/RAM

Really good. A-tier on the mobos list for the 230$ price. S-tier for this price.

The only S-tier mobos for Intel 12th gen are TWO B660s because everything else sucks in value even at the supposedly value price range (~$200). And there are few Z690 A-tiers. The next ones are B-tiers.

It is considerable that this is a depreciation price, but with bios upgrade, this can take in 13th gen CPUs, even i9s. Flashback is super helpful.

Last Black Friday had no great pricing for this, stayed at ~$200. Got one for Newegg ebay coupon down to 185.

I believe you have to pay return shipping unless it's defective, and there's a restocking fee (maybe just if opened?)

Interested - I'm on i7-9700k. How many gens are folks waiting to upgrade? The price seems legit and I'm hardwired. No need for Wi-Fi.

I'm on an i7-7700, wish I could afford to build out a system on this board.

Just bought this on Amazon last night for $30 more. I am replacing the same board I bought 3 months ago and need to RMA for a faulty RAM slot. This is the 2nd gigabyte motherboard I have had to RMA but the price/feature set is really hard to match and the last RMA board I had was perfect for 4 years so I am willing to give them another shot.
