Hello, I hope you're well.

Tesla is offering certain customers a $7,500 discount and 10,000 Supercharger credits if they take delivery of a Model 3 or Model Y by 12/31/2022. Check your text message; here is an example.

Yesterday, I posted about how the Model 3 RWD and Model Y will qualify for the full Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) $7,500 if you take delivery in January or February 2023 (of course, if Tesla runs promotions or drop prices in early 2023, there could be better savings then). This is better in several major ways:
  • Lower sales tax because this is a discount, not a tax credit
  • You get the discount immediately, instead of having to wait until 2024 when you file taxes for 2023
  • You get 10,000 Supercharger credits, which is valued at between $500 and $900
  • If you're financing, you don't have to pay interest on the $7,500
  • (For some people) If you didn't qualify for the tax credit due to being over the income limit, you don't have to worry about that at all
  • 12/29/2022 UPDATE: IRS published its list [irs.gov], and some vehicles will not qualify for the tax credit that starts in 2023; of note, Model Y 5-Seat does not qualify because it passes the $55,000 limit, whereas the Model Y 7-Seat does qualify because it is below the $80,000 limit.
  • 01/04/2022 UPDATE: The 10,000 Supercharger miles (which is actually 4,000 kWH) have been added to the Tesla App. Check Settings > Loot Box.
Author's Note: This is a deal thread, not a political thread or a thread for people who dislike Tesla. Please refrain from going off topic or thumbing down this thread. You have every right to hate Tesla and its CEO, but please don't thumb down a thread related to Tesla simply because of that. Slickdeals is a deal-hunting forum above all else, and I'd greatly appreciate it if we treat threads in Hot Deals as deal threads and nothing else. Thank you.

I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic

A lot of quality control issues lately, worth a quick Google before pulling the trigger

They are not on the league as BMV or Mercedes

the build quality of this last QTR is even more garbage than usual. Nothing will line up, paint defects, squeaks, scratches. Enjoy! Applause

Models manufactured in Fremont are more susceptible to QC issues but are easily resolved. Just go through the car thoroughly when taking delivery. There are delivery checklists available online to make sure nothing is overlooked.

It's always been poor build quality, but they are rushing production even more this last QTR to boost numbers for end of year.

Designed to be nearly impossible to repair affordably, your insurance r30 day of rental will run out before your repairs are complete. Parts getting superseded constantly costing consumers $$$

It's a complete scam setup with only Certified Shops being able to order parts.

RIGHT to REPAIR a vehicle you own is impossible.

And yet Telsa tops the list for customers' satisfaction.

got a model y in 2021 nov.. have noticed 2-3 issues before delivery and sales guy said i can report in app and they will be taken care of in the service appointment. And the list grew bigger after taking delivery ( rattles and squeaks). And these appointments are out 1-2 months here in socal. Had to schedule 3-4 appointments and still hear rattles. then i escalated to manager and i pin pointed the location and told them what to do to get it resolved. Finally they fixed it. Car was at service center 4 weeks for a paint related issue and they provided a model 3 loaner. For rest of service visits they issued uber credits.

Their quality is pretty bad and service guys are terrible to work with. Would never buy this crap again.

I really want to buy this car, but the build quality and repair issues are troubling. The Model 3 looks to be the most trouble free. Leaning towards a Toyota Corolla Hybrid

How tf you gonna put the OTD price in the title? It's car, there are different models, with different options. It's not an Xbox man.
Technically, Xbox also has different models and prices. laugh out loud

Quite a jump in costs between Model 3 and Corolla Hybrid? I'd expect the typical target market of a Model 3 buyer would be a Lexus sedan (IS/ES?) rather than the near entry level sedan of a Toyota. Isn't the Corolla hybrid ~40% of the cost of Model 3?

That said, I'm a big fan of the new 2023 Prius Prime that's 1/2 the price of a Model 3.

I almost bought a Model Y at the beginning of the pandemic when it cost ~$49k, but waited too long and now the same car costs $66k. Confused

Take them both for a test drive and you'll see the Tesla is amazing to drive. Incredible torque and handles like it's on rails. You won't be disappointed.

Holiday update is rolling out that includes Apple Music and a whoopee cushion sound effect that can be activated remotely. lol

Will do. I live close to a Tesla service center. Is the model S that much better?

If any early December folks feel salty about the increased discount, just think about how the November folks feel and you might feel slightly better.

I saw the Prius Prime as well. Nationwide quality service is a major plus. Low cabin noise
