Hello, I hope you're well.
Tesla is offering certain customers a $7,500 discount and 10,000 Supercharger credits if they take delivery of a Model 3 or Model Y by 12/31/2022. Check your text message;
here is an example.
Yesterday,
I posted about how the Model 3 RWD and Model Y will qualify for the full Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) $7,500 if you take delivery in January or February 2023 (of course, if Tesla runs promotions or drop prices in early 2023, there could be better savings then). This is better in several major ways:
- Lower sales tax because this is a discount, not a tax credit
- You get the discount immediately, instead of having to wait until 2024 when you file taxes for 2023
- You get 10,000 Supercharger credits, which is valued at between $500 and $900
- If you're financing, you don't have to pay interest on the $7,500
- (For some people) If you didn't qualify for the tax credit due to being over the income limit, you don't have to worry about that at all
- 12/29/2022 UPDATE: IRS published its list [irs.gov], and some vehicles will not qualify for the tax credit that starts in 2023; of note, Model Y 5-Seat does not qualify because it passes the $55,000 limit, whereas the Model Y 7-Seat does qualify because it is below the $80,000 limit.
- 01/04/2022 UPDATE: The 10,000 Supercharger miles (which is actually 4,000 kWH) have been added to the Tesla App. Check Settings > Loot Box.
Author's Note: This is a deal thread, not a political thread or a thread for people who dislike Tesla. Please refrain from going off topic or thumbing down this thread. You have every right to hate Tesla and its CEO, but please don't thumb down a thread related to Tesla simply because of that. Slickdeals is a deal-hunting forum above all else, and I'd greatly appreciate it if we treat threads in Hot Deals as deal threads and nothing else. Thank you.
I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic

On the other end of the spectrum, my electricity plan is $0 kWh on the weekends, which is when I exclusively charge. So there's no gas car that can even come close to my fuel costs.
Maybe, maybe not. What do you think is going to happen to electricity prices as a whole when generation is not only NOT being built out, but is actively being taken down? Also, what happens as millions of EV's come online? Demand is already nearly outpacing supply, and in the above, inevitable scenarios, demand will increase even more and supply won't keep up. That means prices go up, and for everyone.
I'd rather take my chance with electricity, vs. giving OPEC any of my hard-earned money.
However, every day (hour?) you wait, your odds for delivery this month decrease.
And don't count on Tesla removing that 'est. Dec 2022' delivery timeline anytime soon, even if they know they can't deliver. They're counting on people not canceling if it pushes into Jan.

They're a publicly traded company, trying to push sales volumes up at the end of their fiscal year.
Tesla buyers may get 7500 credit, but profit margin will be squeezed next year because
- more options, more competition
- consumer spending has already slowed down
- demand for oil and gas will slow due to recession
- last but not least, the CEO talks and acts like "a wholesome executive" (from SNL), no matter you're looking at him from the left, or right.

We have a larger AWD SUV for nasty weather but still drive our SR+ most days.

Then you will see your ordered Y in your Tesla app (swipe left on your current car).
From there, you will see a few steps/options to complete in order to get ready for delivery. One of those steps (before payment) is Trade-In. You can select your existing Model 3, and you enter in some basic info. From there, you will be be prompted to take pictures of your 3 via the Tesla app. Make sure it's parked outside where you can get clear pictures.
Then, your trade in goes to 'review' status or something. You'll get an email or app notification with a formal offer, which you can then accept or decline.
Then you finish up your payment steps, and drop off your 3 when you pick up the Y.
