Hello, I hope you're well.

Tesla is offering certain customers a $7,500 discount and 10,000 Supercharger credits if they take delivery of a Model 3 or Model Y by 12/31/2022. Check your text message; here is an example.

Yesterday, I posted about how the Model 3 RWD and Model Y will qualify for the full Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) $7,500 if you take delivery in January or February 2023 (of course, if Tesla runs promotions or drop prices in early 2023, there could be better savings then). This is better in several major ways:
  • Lower sales tax because this is a discount, not a tax credit
  • You get the discount immediately, instead of having to wait until 2024 when you file taxes for 2023
  • You get 10,000 Supercharger credits, which is valued at between $500 and $900
  • If you're financing, you don't have to pay interest on the $7,500
  • (For some people) If you didn't qualify for the tax credit due to being over the income limit, you don't have to worry about that at all
  • 12/29/2022 UPDATE: IRS published its list [irs.gov], and some vehicles will not qualify for the tax credit that starts in 2023; of note, Model Y 5-Seat does not qualify because it passes the $55,000 limit, whereas the Model Y 7-Seat does qualify because it is below the $80,000 limit.
  • 01/04/2022 UPDATE: The 10,000 Supercharger miles (which is actually 4,000 kWH) have been added to the Tesla App. Check Settings > Loot Box.
Author's Note: This is a deal thread, not a political thread or a thread for people who dislike Tesla. Please refrain from going off topic or thumbing down this thread. You have every right to hate Tesla and its CEO, but please don't thumb down a thread related to Tesla simply because of that. Slickdeals is a deal-hunting forum above all else, and I'd greatly appreciate it if we treat threads in Hot Deals as deal threads and nothing else. Thank you.

I hope this helps,

Gasp! Almost like you're an enthusiast. Isn't this what we've been saying all along?

You're going to Bimmerfests and what not. That is enthusiast shit! Good for you, but most people aren't like that. But if you buy a Tesla you have to be like that. Soooooo many QC issues. It really is a piece of shit (for a "luxury vehicle").

Now you're comparing Tesla to Jeeps. LOL. What a comparison! If that's the best comparison you got you know the Tesla is a piece of shit. EVeryone knows Jeeps are pieces of shit and you just compared the two in the same sentence. Yikes!

Well you do you and justify your purchase. But your resell value went into the toilet. LOL. Probably why you're so salty.
The car nerds online (teslamotorclub website, for example) are the vocal minority. The average Tesla buyer makes well in the low six figures and higher than any other major car company, I think. Most people with money don't sit around posting online and reading bulletin boards...I deal with wealthy people all day long, and almost all are completely unaware of these types of forums.

Before I bought my Tesla, I asked friends and neighbors who owned them...not one of them mentioned "panel gaps" or "quality control" or told me to check out "bulletin boards". No one had service issues worse than their BMWs or Audis.

And as for falling values, my used Subaru was quoted at nearly $36K this past spring. It's $24K today. And Subaru, historically, has had some of the best resale values. All used car prices are plummeting.

'You're going to Bimmerfests'

Not a one. I simply refuted your suggeston that I somehow put less DD into previous cars. I didn't. Tesla invites more of a tech savvy, nitpicky (outlier) base that focus a lot more on the minutiae Vs traditional dealers' customers. This is a very simple concept to grasp, even in your echo chamber.

'it really is a POS' - incorrect for obvious reasons but I get this is an emotional topic, why we may never know.

'now your comparing Tesla to Jeeps' - contextually incorrect. I'm comparing every previous car I own that had a litany of *real mechanical* issues relative to your suggeston Tesla has far higher QC (mostly minor, cosmetic) issues because you Googled Tesla QC issues. Lol

'your resell value' - about 55% of what I paid 3 years ago (and dropped ~20k in a year, not Tesla related) @ 30k miles, though I apparently don't view $60k with the emotional fervor of a Moldova retiree. Have a great day! Smilie

Yes, it has harmed the Tesla only for those with political differences. For those who don't confuse politics with buying a car, I don't see it's harmed the Tesla name at all.

You think? Do you have any source? People keep making up these stats. It's quite funny. There is a reason there are countless checklists online for buying a Tesla. Tons of QC issues. Unlike any other manufacturer. The Ford F-150 is the most popular car in the US. You google Ford F-150 checklist and you don't get the results you get with the Tesla. Teslas have serious problems. Tons of people drinking the Tesla Kool-aid though and unwilling to admit it. I really don't get it.

Comparing a used car price now to 8-12 months ago is laughable. We all know used car sales were historically high during that time and are not coming back down to earth (still high though). So that's not a good barometer.

Tech savvy people focus on the minutiae? Absolutely not. Maybe the TECH minutia but not the QC issues we're seeing with Teslas (poor panel alignments, bad paint jobs, drooping door issues, etc etc etc. These are not the type of minutia that tech savvy people care about. These are mechanical issues. Tech savvy people don't get bogged down by these things. Now with the Tesla they HAVE to. Because of all the countless issues. You accept a vehicle and then find out it has countless issues, you're gonna have a bad time.

No, I googled Tesla checklist and got countless results on how to check for qc issues on your Tesla. Unlike any other vehicle you search for. Maybe Jeep, but again, that's not what you want to be compared to. LOL.

Funny to see you doubling down. I get you. You poured a ton of money into this car (you may have encountered some of these "minor" qc issues) and you need to justify it to the internets. It's a sunk cost now buddy. Keep the car or sell it. Your choice. But the problems are real. You seem to have bad luck in buying cars with notorious qc issues: first jeep and now tesla. Yikes! Remind me not to listen to you when it comes to major purchases!

But google and other car and you won't get nearly the number of hits you get with the Telsa. Sounds like it's a requirement to go through a checklist else you'll miss some pretty big issues.

And you're talking about going to a car enthusiast website to find checklists for other vehicles. Enthusiasts, okay. That makes sense. After all, that's what an ENTHUSIAST would do. But not your average person. Now with the Tesla it seems the average person does have to go through a checklist due to the myriad of issues you can encounter. All this for a supposed luxury car? lol

I google 'Toyota Tundra checklist' and the responses are for the maintenance schedule.
Then I google Tesla checklist and there are COUNTLESS hits on what to look for when you have a Tesla delivered, due to the number of issues you can encounter. Completely different.
I see getting a checklist as a good thing. Not sure how you see it as a bad thing. As for Tundra. Opinions and ideas for maintenance have nothing to do with finding defect in a new car. Please tell me how you find if your Turbo's on Tundra are defective. Tell me how you spot Tundra's defective axle or brake issues. Any explanation to confirm? No, there is not checklist and no way to spot it. A checklist to visually spot potential problems and have them fix, is only a good thing. No checklist or present checklist will do nothing to spot problems on Tundra. It's obvious you're reaching here.

I'm not saying a checklist is a bad thing. I'm saying that it's clear that Teslas have an array of qc issues due to the countless checklists available at a quick search. I'm not denying that there may be issues with the Tundra, but not as widespread. And those issues with the Tundra are much simpler to fix. How? Take it to the local Toyota dealership and have it fixed under warranty. With a Tesla there are no dealerships. So you gotta wait MONTHS to get it fixed. Huge pain in the butt. Not worth the hassle.

You are totally wrong on the Tundra issues being easier to fix When that turbo problem pops up one of two things will happen. Either continue on in a limp mode or maybe the check engine light continues to pop up every so often. Point being the truck is not running even near it's potential, while you wait for the parts to come in. And this will be after numerous visits to the dealer to get them to admit it's a turbo problem. They don't want to replace a turbo. The cab has to be removed. Yes, the cab has to be lifted, or the engine pulled. They'll remove the cab. So after numerous visits and Toyota agrees to replace the turbos, you run at a diminished performance until you get a call from the dealer the part is in. Maybe 2 weeks, maybe 3 months. Then you take it in and they'll pull the cab and replace the turbo. Not a 4 hour job as you can guess.
Option 2 will be if the truck is in a severe state and will sit at the dealer till the part arrives. The axle and brake issues are much easier, but even some of those will have to wait for the part.
Nope! Not an easier fix than Tesla. Not by a long shot. Tundra probably/maybe has just as many fit issues as Tesla. I don't know how bad Tesla is there, but Tundra is noticeably worse than ever for fitment issues. From what i understand, Tesla will sometimes come to your home to fix some of these issues?? Toyota will never come to your home to fix anything! Maybe to pick it up if it's not mobile, but not to repair. That's what I've heard about Tesla. I don' know if it's true.

Tesla is great. First and foremost it's one of the safest cars out there (scoring highest in NCAP test). It even knows to deploy airbags ahead of inevitable crash to reduce impact vs other cars waiting on impact. It' also low to almost no maintenance required (just need changing wiper and tires). Not to mention Sentry mode for continuous recording in case of accident, Dog mode to feel safe leaving dogs inside, big backseats with plenty of legroom's for adult, huge storage space including sub trunk and frunk, and continuous technology updates via software so you are always running the latest and greatest version (think iPhone). Winter driving is also great as it warms up the car in seconds and not having to waste burning gasline just to keep car warm. This is not even touching on the huge advantage of its super charging network. It checks off all the boxes for family needs. No car is perfect, but Tesla comes pretty close. Once you drive one not many would go non-tesla in the next car.

It is if you actually believe 'every demographic is living paycheck to paycheck' as previously stated.

The avg new car price is > $48k.
84% of new cars are financed.

Two thirds of Tesla buyers don't finance their 3/Y.

More than 9 out of every 10 model S customers do not finance (starts over 100k).

No, I do not think 60k ' a ton of money' for a new car in 2022 & certainly not for a stealth performance 3 w/FSD in 2019.

Obviously not talking about average household savings. But iirc that person claims to be retiring in early 40s in Europe & financially independent, which makes that paradoxical statement all the more comical.

Context is often omitted here, unintentional as it may be.

Not for a car, especially a medium/high end electric one.

Some posters think that Tesla's are always in the shop, and lose their value more than other cars.

And, even stranger, actually care enough to argue their point when they don't even own one.

If and only when the haters start researching anytime in future for EVs they will know that Tesla is in a different league altogether. It is the same as for Apple iPhone hate club. Every innovation cause a disruption not easy to adopt. At least compare apples to apples😀 I see people comparing EV to ICE vehicles! If you think Chevy bolt or other EVs delivers the same for you by all means go for it. If you think vehicle just to take you from point A to B this is not for you. If you want luxury of high end cars this is not for you. I rest my case

Exactly! This is why I don't argue with people. I only provide my actual experience of driving a Tesla for the last 4.5 years. I will gladly buy any other brand electric car if there is something better. My Model 3 was one of the earlier builds (vin in 8k range), had bumper and panel adjusted by Tesla thru their preferred third part body shop. I'm actually glad they had to "touch it up" because they knew how to handle Tesla body work. No other issues with my car so far.

Would have loved to buy a F150 lightning but dealer markup and lack of availability has pushed me away. Waiting to see the actual pricing for Mercedes EQE SUV before buying a 2nd EV. Similar situation with GM/Kia/VW - too much dealer markup and BS.

I've been on the lightning wait list for a year and a half with no end in sight. Seen two in the wild. Kind of pitiful how Ford has handled their reservation system tbh, don't know why they give you a unique number when they have no idea how to track it. It would have been neat for the intelligent backup power alone. But at this rate gonna hard pass on that now.

Most of these benefits are specific to EV's, not just Tesla's
