Hello, I hope you're well.
Tesla is offering certain customers a $7,500 discount and 10,000 Supercharger credits if they take delivery of a Model 3 or Model Y by 12/31/2022. Check your text message;
here is an example.
Yesterday,
I posted about how the Model 3 RWD and Model Y will qualify for the full Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) $7,500 if you take delivery in January or February 2023 (of course, if Tesla runs promotions or drop prices in early 2023, there could be better savings then). This is better in several major ways:
- Lower sales tax because this is a discount, not a tax credit
- You get the discount immediately, instead of having to wait until 2024 when you file taxes for 2023
- You get 10,000 Supercharger credits, which is valued at between $500 and $900
- If you're financing, you don't have to pay interest on the $7,500
- (For some people) If you didn't qualify for the tax credit due to being over the income limit, you don't have to worry about that at all
- 12/29/2022 UPDATE: IRS published its list [irs.gov], and some vehicles will not qualify for the tax credit that starts in 2023; of note, Model Y 5-Seat does not qualify because it passes the $55,000 limit, whereas the Model Y 7-Seat does qualify because it is below the $80,000 limit.
- 01/04/2022 UPDATE: The 10,000 Supercharger miles (which is actually 4,000 kWH) have been added to the Tesla App. Check Settings > Loot Box.
Author's Note: This is a deal thread, not a political thread or a thread for people who dislike Tesla. Please refrain from going off topic or thumbing down this thread. You have every right to hate Tesla and its CEO, but please don't thumb down a thread related to Tesla simply because of that. Slickdeals is a deal-hunting forum above all else, and I'd greatly appreciate it if we treat threads in Hot Deals as deal threads and nothing else. Thank you.
I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic

You're going to Bimmerfests and what not. That is enthusiast shit! Good for you, but most people aren't like that. But if you buy a Tesla you have to be like that. Soooooo many QC issues. It really is a piece of shit (for a "luxury vehicle").
Now you're comparing Tesla to Jeeps. LOL. What a comparison! If that's the best comparison you got you know the Tesla is a piece of shit. EVeryone knows Jeeps are pieces of shit and you just compared the two in the same sentence. Yikes!
Well you do you and justify your purchase. But your resell value went into the toilet. LOL. Probably why you're so salty.
Before I bought my Tesla, I asked friends and neighbors who owned them...not one of them mentioned "panel gaps" or "quality control" or told me to check out "bulletin boards". No one had service issues worse than their BMWs or Audis.
And as for falling values, my used Subaru was quoted at nearly $36K this past spring. It's $24K today. And Subaru, historically, has had some of the best resale values. All used car prices are plummeting.

Not a one. I simply refuted your suggeston that I somehow put less DD into previous cars. I didn't. Tesla invites more of a tech savvy, nitpicky (outlier) base that focus a lot more on the minutiae Vs traditional dealers' customers. This is a very simple concept to grasp, even in your echo chamber.
'it really is a POS' - incorrect for obvious reasons but I get this is an emotional topic, why we may never know.
'now your comparing Tesla to Jeeps' - contextually incorrect. I'm comparing every previous car I own that had a litany of *real mechanical* issues relative to your suggeston Tesla has far higher QC (mostly minor, cosmetic) issues because you Googled Tesla QC issues. Lol
'your resell value' - about 55% of what I paid 3 years ago (and dropped ~20k in a year, not Tesla related) @ 30k miles, though I apparently don't view $60k with the emotional fervor of a Moldova retiree. Have a great day!

Comparing a used car price now to 8-12 months ago is laughable. We all know used car sales were historically high during that time and are not coming back down to earth (still high though). So that's not a good barometer.

No, I googled Tesla checklist and got countless results on how to check for qc issues on your Tesla. Unlike any other vehicle you search for. Maybe Jeep, but again, that's not what you want to be compared to. LOL.
Funny to see you doubling down. I get you. You poured a ton of money into this car (you may have encountered some of these "minor" qc issues) and you need to justify it to the internets. It's a sunk cost now buddy. Keep the car or sell it. Your choice. But the problems are real. You seem to have bad luck in buying cars with notorious qc issues: first jeep and now tesla. Yikes! Remind me not to listen to you when it comes to major purchases!
And you're talking about going to a car enthusiast website to find checklists for other vehicles. Enthusiasts, okay. That makes sense. After all, that's what an ENTHUSIAST would do. But not your average person. Now with the Tesla it seems the average person does have to go through a checklist due to the myriad of issues you can encounter. All this for a supposed luxury car? lol
I google 'Toyota Tundra checklist' and the responses are for the maintenance schedule.
Then I google Tesla checklist and there are COUNTLESS hits on what to look for when you have a Tesla delivered, due to the number of issues you can encounter. Completely different.
Option 2 will be if the truck is in a severe state and will sit at the dealer till the part arrives. The axle and brake issues are much easier, but even some of those will have to wait for the part.
Nope! Not an easier fix than Tesla. Not by a long shot. Tundra probably/maybe has just as many fit issues as Tesla. I don't know how bad Tesla is there, but Tundra is noticeably worse than ever for fitment issues. From what i understand, Tesla will sometimes come to your home to fix some of these issues?? Toyota will never come to your home to fix anything! Maybe to pick it up if it's not mobile, but not to repair. That's what I've heard about Tesla. I don' know if it's true.

The avg new car price is > $48k.
84% of new cars are financed.
Two thirds of Tesla buyers don't finance their 3/Y.
More than 9 out of every 10 model S customers do not finance (starts over 100k).
No, I do not think 60k ' a ton of money' for a new car in 2022 & certainly not for a stealth performance 3 w/FSD in 2019.
Obviously not talking about average household savings. But iirc that person claims to be retiring in early 40s in Europe & financially independent, which makes that paradoxical statement all the more comical.
Context is often omitted here, unintentional as it may be.
Some posters think that Tesla's are always in the shop, and lose their value more than other cars.
And, even stranger, actually care enough to argue their point when they don't even own one.

Would have loved to buy a F150 lightning but dealer markup and lack of availability has pushed me away. Waiting to see the actual pricing for Mercedes EQE SUV before buying a 2nd EV. Similar situation with GM/Kia/VW - too much dealer markup and BS.
