Tesla is offering certain customers a $7,500 discount and 10,000 Supercharger credits if they take delivery of a Model 3 or Model Y by 12/31/2022. Check your text message; here is an example.
Yesterday, I posted about how the Model 3 RWD and Model Y will qualify for the full Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) $7,500 if you take delivery in January or February 2023 (of course, if Tesla runs promotions or drop prices in early 2023, there could be better savings then). This is better in several major ways:

Yesterday, I posted about how the Model 3 RWD and Model Y will qualify for the full Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) $7,500 if you take delivery in January or February 2023 (of course, if Tesla runs promotions or drop prices in early 2023, there could be better savings then). This is better in several major ways:
- Lower sales tax because this is a discount, not a tax credit
- You get the discount immediately, instead of having to wait until 2024 when you file taxes for 2023
- You get 10,000 Supercharger credits, which is valued at between $500 and $900
- If you're financing, you don't have to pay interest on the $7,500
- (For some people) If you didn't qualify for the tax credit due to being over the income limit, you don't have to worry about that at all
- 12/29/2022 UPDATE: IRS published its list [irs.gov], and some vehicles will not qualify for the tax credit that starts in 2023; of note, Model Y 5-Seat does not qualify because it passes the $55,000 limit, whereas the Model Y 7-Seat does qualify because it is below the $80,000 limit.
- 01/04/2022 UPDATE: The 10,000 Supercharger miles (which is actually 4,000 kWH) have been added to the Tesla App. Check Settings > Loot Box.

- Sentry mode is not specific to Tesla. Other manufactures offer something similar (Drive Recorder in BMW)

This describes the BMW system.
First- it only automatically saves any footage if it detects an accident... and then only 40 seconds worth (20 seconds before, 20 after).
Even if you activate it manually, it still won't save more than a max of 40 seconds of video- 20 before and 20 after.
And the max # of recordings you can have at all is 10... so not even quite SEVEN total minutes of recordings and your drive is full.
Sentry/Dashcam on the other hand will save 10 minutes of footage each time it detects someone approaching your parked car--or if you manually tell it to it'll save 10 minutes as well... no need for so much damage it triggers accident sensors- and no hoping you needed more than 20 seconds of before or after footage which you often would. And you can save hours and hours and hours of footage if you want.
Tesla updates core vehicle systems and functionality that way, and has for years.
Often adding new features, for free, even years after you buy your car.
Another way this vast difference in what "OTA" means for Tesla vs. nearly everyone else is Ford, for example, claims they have OTA, but all 67 of their recalls this year (most in the industry) were still physical ones you have to go to a dealer to fix. Tesla, in contrast, was able to fix the vast majority of their "recalls" (already second least in the industry overall) with just an OTA software update without the car needing to go anywhere
Again this is not quite correct.
The system will also display a large message to make others aware of the temp in the car and that the climate system is on so they know there's no reason to break a window for the animals protection. Additionally if your battery is getting below 20% while it's on it'll send an alert to your phone informing you.
I think you mean "DC fast charging" isn't specific to Tesla.
And while that's true, they have by far the biggest, most reliable, and generally fastest system out there.
And as I mentioned the Chevy Bolt folks were comparing to maxes out at a top charge rate of 55kw- even if it had access to Teslas superchargers it won't benefit from the vastly higher speeds they're capable of... Current Teslas can charge at nearly 5 times that rate, and are expected to go even higher in the near future... (with at least 2 vehicles coming capable of 1000kw charging)
Radar cars can set max TACC/AP speed to 90 mph, and follow distance to 1.
Non-radar cars when they first came out could only do 75 mph, and distance of 3. They have improved this over time, finally getting to 85 and 2.... but still, about 1.5 years later, not back to equal to the radar cars.
Currently there's a major difference in the non-USS cars with multiple EAP/FSD features entirely unavailable-- it's unknown right now to what degree, or when, they'll be restored at all but if radar is any guide they won't be at parity for a long time if ever.
All that said- there's also the pretty well sourced rumor that starting in mid-January they'll have radar BACK on new cars-- which could potentially fix BOTH the speed/follow limits I mention, and easily replace the USS with even better functionality.... (and in theory that radar might be pretty easily retrofitted to existing vehicles, but that's more unknown than the fact new radar is coming at all)
Most of the other improvements you list are certainly valid, though one might wanna come with an asterisk-
While that's true it provides more power, they also no longer supports data like the USB-A ports (and even the earlier build C ports) did- you just get ONE data port- in the glovebox. I'm using 3 different things via data USB ports in my car right now so that'd kinda suck for me... (256GB storage for FLAC music, 128GB storage for dashcam footage, and a wired game controller)
Yup.
Originally only cars without radar had the restrictions.
Eventually cars that got into the FSD beta also had those restrictions applied.
Since then some additional non-fsdb cars- but not all of them- have also had radar disabled.
The easy way to tell is check what it lets you set follow to... if it lets you go to 1 you have working radar, if it's 2, you don't.
Not sure if i will get it in time.. Otherwise, will buy something else.. Not in a hurry though.

You think there's any chance they'll restore that to older cars when/if it makes comeback?
Also now suddenly feel happier abt USB-A, doing same on usb ports, even added a hub.

I wish I could add that nifty new MyQ integration to list but I found it very inconsistent last couple weeks & such an incremental thing to be subbed; they should have partnered it into tesla premium connectivity, that would have made more sense (except maybe for Chamberlain margins) .
But looking at my order, seems like they are unavailable now from Amazon.
Good luck and enjoy the ride. It's fun and different, but hardly perfect.
And don't forget the checklist, which I just read. Lord help me if I ever get seated next to the creator during a flight.

I don't think this was expected. Basically they're saying all Model Ys are 'cars' and fall under the $55K limit, unless you get the 7-seater.
