Hello, I hope you're well.

Tesla is offering certain customers a $7,500 discount and 10,000 Supercharger credits if they take delivery of a Model 3 or Model Y by 12/31/2022. Check your text message; here is an example.

Yesterday, I posted about how the Model 3 RWD and Model Y will qualify for the full Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) $7,500 if you take delivery in January or February 2023 (of course, if Tesla runs promotions or drop prices in early 2023, there could be better savings then). This is better in several major ways:
  • Lower sales tax because this is a discount, not a tax credit
  • You get the discount immediately, instead of having to wait until 2024 when you file taxes for 2023
  • You get 10,000 Supercharger credits, which is valued at between $500 and $900
  • If you're financing, you don't have to pay interest on the $7,500
  • (For some people) If you didn't qualify for the tax credit due to being over the income limit, you don't have to worry about that at all
  • 12/29/2022 UPDATE: IRS published its list [irs.gov], and some vehicles will not qualify for the tax credit that starts in 2023; of note, Model Y 5-Seat does not qualify because it passes the $55,000 limit, whereas the Model Y 7-Seat does qualify because it is below the $80,000 limit.
  • 01/04/2022 UPDATE: The 10,000 Supercharger miles (which is actually 4,000 kWH) have been added to the Tesla App. Check Settings > Loot Box.
Author's Note: This is a deal thread, not a political thread or a thread for people who dislike Tesla. Please refrain from going off topic or thumbing down this thread. You have every right to hate Tesla and its CEO, but please don't thumb down a thread related to Tesla simply because of that. Slickdeals is a deal-hunting forum above all else, and I'd greatly appreciate it if we treat threads in Hot Deals as deal threads and nothing else. Thank you.

I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic

This thread turned from hating in Elon musk and Tesla to FOMO buying.

Maybe I should take a TikTok video recording myself inspecting the car holding a flashlight in the rain? I don't think I am asking too much given there are so much horror stories about Tesla quality issues. I'm just trying to do my own due diligence. I'm sure there are Tesla fan boys that will take any thing Elon gives them, but sorry I'm not one of them.

Is it reasonable asking if there's a cover spot where I can inspect the car? I was told no. I guess some ass could comment that I should blame or ask Tesla to move the cloud.
Dude just don't buy one if you're going to be so unhappy before you even get the car. Lots of other people happily buy it. Be happy and just cancel.

I live in austin. i ordered on 25th of dec. it said estimated delivery december - march 2023. then on the 27th it changed to delivery dec 28- dec 31. TODAY It says "we will notify you when its time to continue with your pre delivery tasks.

I hope they fulfill the promotion regardless of delivery date. and I better have a 2023 if its coming later. my loan offer was 64k, so I had to take off auto pilot option for 15k to bring my down payment to 6k when car is ready

Even if it was ready on Saturday, insurances are closed on the weekends and so are title registration offices.

so this promotion unrealistically did not make sense.

I ordered on Dec 21st, when this thread went live, and picked mine up today in Dallas.

Do you have all your steps in the app complete? If you haven't added it to your insurance and/or submitted that info to Tesla, you're not getting it tomorrow.

Yeah, you're screwed. Tesla has to assign you a VIN, then you have to add that to your insurance (even though you don't have a car yet!), show that info to Tesla, then they'll keep going with the registration and payment info.

There's no double-dipping. Either you got $3750/$7500 before Dec 31st, or you get the Federal tax incentives, which are much more restrictive than expected. So most Model Y buyers next year will not get to take advantage of the tax incentive.
What's 3750 for

On Dec 15th, Tesla announced a $3750 discount for Model 3/Y if you took delivery in December.

On Dec 21st, they up'd that amount to $7,500 + 10K free Supercharger miles.

So people that took delivery from Dec 15-20th got the $3750.

Their sales to delivery process leaves A LOT to be desired. I've bought nearly 20 cars over my life (for friends, etc too), and their delivery experience is bar none the worst. I think you're asking a reasonable request and who knows they may come back and 'find' your car and be able to deliver tomorrow. EEK!

And you know, I've got a super-crazy idea--if the car is at the Fremont or TX factory, tell them you'll just fly out to it and take delivery--even if the flight is $1000, you're still ahead in the end.
So an update to my dilemma… looks like they found my Y… it ended up in Buena Park for some reason….which no one's was able to offer an explanation. So skipping all the shadiness/incompetence/non-transparent business model… they will home deliver my Y tomorrow. Crossing fingers it comes thru. And I'll be inspecting the car in the rain most likely. They said I can't go inside of the car until I take delivery so outside inspection only. I'm so tired of their attitude/take it or leave it/snob attitude. Tesla is like the hot girl from afar but as you get closer her demeanor/attitude makes her look ugly as hell.

I took home delivery from BP last night. Driver let me know he was coming. Waited for him outside. He TOLD me to inspect the inside and outside before I clicked the accept delivery button. Was outside with a flashlight lol. This is my second Tesla and the car was fine. Much better than 2019 days. Only found one issue, minor paint chip in an obscure place.

Man, I ordered my Y in May. Delivery was 12/17. Was glad to get the $3750, but 4 days later I could have doubled it!

They told me I also got the 10k Supercharger miles, but I probably wouldn't get it till Jan. Nothing yet.

Such a great car. I don't listen to the detractors. It's so fun. My wife, who refused to drive anywhere we went together ("I hate driving!"), now wants to drive every time. It's so fun.

I requested a trade-in quote for my 2019 Model 3 LR with FSD 2 weeks ago and was given a range of $34k-36k.

Checked again today and it's now $24k-27k ... Now in my math, I'm actually loosing money on this deal. Not saying it's a bad deal, but if you're Tesla and your just taking off the discount from the trade in, then you're not giving any discount
I'll buy it from you
