The review about the latch/hook sticking out are very concerning. Scrapes, scratches, cuts… or worse for a child.

I have the slimmer version of this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...UTF8&psc=1
It broke. The knob separated from the lock so I'm replacing it. It's used on a basement bathroom that doesn't get heavy use

"lock" should be put in quotation marks. It's very easy to purposely or accidentally open a door where this is your lock.

I have this on one of my pocket doors. There really is no other way to latch a pocket door without some sort of hook. If you find anything different let me know. What makes this any different than a deadbolt lock that sticks out?
Pocket doors are inherently dangerous to little fingers.
Having said that, I have mounted these https://www.amazon.com/Defender-S...C70&sr=1-5 at the top of the frame side of all my pocket doors and drilled a hole in the door to receive the 'pin'. This works as a privacy lock that only adults can reach, and also allows me to lock the passage pocket doors in the "open position" to keep the kiddos from playing with them and hurting their fingers (again). The only downside is that there is no way to 'unlock' a door from the side without the lock in the rare instance you would need to do that.

I can concur with the comments that this lock is trash. So much so that I am contemplating installing a new door

We have something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0B94KCN2R. I couldn't find a cheap version so it looks significantly more expensive but going from a lock like OP's to this has been worth it for us. Highly recommended.

72% out of 1,034 reviews gave it a 5 star rating.
15% gave it 4 stars. And people focus on a few negative reviews.

Thx, in for one to replace a flaky pocket door lock.

Btw, pocket door save room it doesn't need the swing space of a regular door. But if I had a time machine, I wouldn't use them again Smilie

All pocket door latches suck and eventual misaligned and get dented. Or the turning breaks. Stocking up on two replacements ahead of time…

Is there any way to make a pocket door not suck?

My new place has a pocket door on the main bathroom on the first floor. There was a basic eye hook and latch pin, but the eye hook busted out of the door. I'm not the a fan of pocket doors and looking for the best option. I picked up a similar one from Lowes for $15, but it seems way too flimsy to warrant cutting a huge chunk out of a solid wood door.

Are their any better options? I've been looking and it's a $15-30 set like this. There are $40-50 ones that look very similar. Then it jumps to $300+. Is there a middle ground?

The door is completely solid. There look to be sets that go in normal circle openings for standard handles, but that doesn't help with getting the door open if it's fully opened/flush in the frame without an additional pull handle.
