Given that the lamp drew 5V/1A it's actually almost irresponsible for it to not have been powered by USB! Presumably if you do have a USB-A to barrel connector you could rectify this... but that solution is worth more than the lamp itself (which is also the reason it presumably used a cheap barrel connector).
