I was back and forth with them both and decided on the 5700x. Its 65w vs 105w, I dont have to worry about trying to undervolt it or getting an expensive cooler. I tried looking up if my motherboard has an "external clock generator" to better undervolt it then I caught myself realizing who am I kidding I am not even going to use the performance difference and I dont even have the newest Flight Simulator game so why am I going into that time sink, I rather get something that just works that is 98% the same most of the time.

Fat chance. Nice x570s are still near $200. Some are $270. Ugh. Bedo strikes again
Then this is a nothing.

Good deal if you can get a high end motherboard for less than $100 too

These run perfectly fine on B550 boards. I have a 5600x on a B450 and runs great.

This is a great deal, esp if you have a AM4 board already.

For gaming? doubt it. In this budget range you are probably already gpu limited.
For multi core workloads? probably
Depends what you play, resolution and the GPU. This will manage only about 60 fps in some CPU demanding games.

I don't believe this.

Name some games, please, in any resolution, with any gpu, where either the 5600 or the 5700x is cpu limited to 60fps.

The higher your resolution the less the CPU matters. I opted for a used 5800x for $180 because I'm gaming at 4K and have no regrets. At this resolution it would be difficult to bottleneck the CPU. Based on benchmarks the 5800x3d wouldn't make sense for someone like me. That said at lower resolutions it's the best AM4 gaming CPU.

This or 5800x3d for $300? what's the slight difference between the two?

That's the truth. These AM4 boards have a long life (I started mine with a 1500X and a 1050 GPU and am now up to a 5600 with a 6750XT.

a few Bios updates along the way and this boards stills rocks.

Almost certainly.

The 5600G really suffers when it comes to cache. The 6 cores, 12 threads at 3.9GHz - 4.4GHz definitely isn't bad, but the 3MB of L2 cache and 16MB of L3 cache really starts to hurt.

On the face of it, the 5700x with a clock between 3.4GHz and 4.6GHz might seem like it's going a little slower, but it boosts higher, it has more cores (8 cores, 16 threads), and _twice_ the L3 cache, at 32MB. That matters.

To put it into perspective, the reason why the 5800x3d is so highly rated, is because it has 96MB of L3 cache. It is, in all other respects, slightly inferior to the 5800x. But that cache alone makes it bloody awesome. And so doubling the cache from your 5600g is a big deal.

I built my rig with the Ryzen initial launch. Started with a 1600, Rx470 and X370 mobo, then had 2600/580. Just recently did my 'final' upgrade with a 5700x, 6700xt and 32gb of RAM. What a jump. 1440p I'm pushing my monitors 165 refresh rate constantly with maxed out settings. I was going to go 5600x but for like $20 more at the time I figured it was dumb not to get the extra cores. I do occasionally do multi thread-heavy work so seeing the reduction in time for those to render was awesome too.
Hopefully this deal shows up in a few months again. I want to upgrade my 3600

If all your running is the onboard graphics and you upgrade your cpu, your better off saving 100$ and getting the 5700x so you have money left over to put a nice GPU into your system. The 5700x or 5800x3d doesn't have onboard graphics

It entirely depends on the GPU at this point. That would be true if someone was still running an old GTX 970 or something. But if they get a 6800xt or something it's a different story

Lol you can get entry level am4 boards under 100. I wouldn't call it high end, but it could run this processor no problem, you can get a nice A520 basic board but it's not gonna have the power delivery to run a 5800x3d properly or the proper vrms or cooling for vrms to handling the 100 w CPUs

Realistically you can get a mid range B550 board 150. 120 on sale. And high end X570? Maybe on sale 150 but realistically 200$
