I'm a longtime Nova Launcher Prime patron, and still use it on my S22 Ultra. They were acquired by the analytics company Branch earlier this year. Just wondering how much development will go into product improvement going forward and how much data they intend to collect about their users.

Dont buy this, its a trap. Nova sold to an analytics company. They want to data harvest you, launchers are very valuable and get a ton of info from you.
Use something like Pear Launcher instead that doesnt spy on you.
ALWAYS read up on app permissions and privacy policies before you install.

From searching SD, it looks like this has gone on sale for $1 every year in December.

Now, after being acquired by a data analytics company, it goes on sale for 50 cents.

Kinda makes a fella wonder.

I'd be curious to know what kind of data they have access to as a launcher. I tried searching at some point but couldn't find any good write ups.

This is the problem with Android in general that Google should really address. I recently installed some apps in order to collect play points thinking it's just free points and I'll never use the app. I just needs to be installed on your device for a day. But if you read the data collection terms for the apps it was quite a lot of info that gets shared with the developer and it's not clear whether that's at launch of the app or would it be done upon install as some could run at least in the background. Assuming it was okay in my case but just irks me that these apps have so much access to your data and you would not know what type of data is being sent to them in the name of analytics, performance or troubleshooting logs.

I've been using Nova since it was in beta, but I'm ready to switch after the buyout. The problem is all the alternatives are not as good. I really wanted to like Lawn chair, but it just wasn't what I needed.

Highly recommend it. Definitely check out their website and maybe even watch a YouTube video or two to see how people have customized it because right out of the box you are probably going to think it's stupid and too simple but there is a lot behind the scenes you can do

Best launcher, been using it for a bunch of years, one of the few apps I've seen fit to pay for, and still the first thing I put on any new Android device.

I'm sure there are other launchers that are at least as technically capable, but Nova does exactly what I want, how I want, and keeps doing it with no fuss.

Agree, 100%. I've tried a few and didn't like them. They were a pain to setup and I still didn't get them tweaked quite how I like. I should probably move on but I don't want something new when the old thing feels superior. Still can't stand the Samsung interface, and Lawn chair just didn't do it for me.

You can back up your settings first to be sure, but I don't think you need to do anything when you upgrade.
