Do you need alr screens with laser projectors? What if I already have a screen from an old school 3lcd Epson home projector?

Wish they would stop bundling screens

It makes a lot of difference to have a screen for UST projector, you can even set it up in your living room with the screen made for UST projector.

ALR is just to mitigate some direct light source from the side. These bundles are made to "replace" a TV. If you have a light controlled room there would be no point to an ALR screen besides limiting your viewing angle.

Don't understand the point of 100 inch projectors when 85 inch lcds have gotten so cheap.

difference between 100" and 85" is larger then you think...when you take into account the square area.

A bit late but no. You need a UST ALR screen with a UST projector IF you can't control your light. The angle at which they throw an image is too extreme. ALR screens specific to USTs use a lenticular or fresnel layer that accepts light from one angle (below) and rejects from other angles.

Note - you'll have to deal with the light that bounces up into the ceiling as well. This issue is exaggerated in USTs since they're basically throwing light straight up. If you're in a white walled room, getting a UST ALR/CLR screen is worth it.

what if you intend to mount it on the ceiling at UST distance and the floor is dark brown?

The question is less the color and more so how reflective the material is. I'm assuming you have wood floors which are finished over with something like shellac? that could be just as bad. the nice thing is its easier to put some velvet fabric on the floor than it is to paint your ceiling.
