I can see why if he played it on Nintendo, Nintendo reviews are bad. Steam its at a 9/10

It is repetitive. But it's also a really cool indie game with beautiful graphic styling. Decent story. Definitely worth a play through. It's too easy is the biggest problem.

If you have it one one account (free or not) why pay for it on other launcher/platforms...
