These combo drugs are good for convenience only and nothing else. This combination of medications might not be ideal for your symptoms. If you don't have a headache or body aches, you don't need acetaminophen. Be careful to watch your total daily acetaminophen intake with these combo drugs, especially if you have liver problems. It doesn't have guaifenesin, which reduces the thickness of secretions and might help prevent pneumonia or other further complications of flu. Since these are OTC, these have phenylephrine as a decongestant and not pseudoephedrine, which works much better for sinus congestion. Taking a cough suppressant 24/7 can make your illness worse, as you won't be as likely to cough up secretions and prevent them from settling and potentially becoming a source of infection, potentially leading to pneumonia. If you can stand to manage separate medications, it is a better treatment and typically more cost effective to purchase generic individual medications and take them as-needed. If in doubt, consult your pharmacist or primary care provider.

Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is metabolized by the liver, not kidneys. It is liver dysfunction that you should worry about which is why it says to speak with someone before taking if you consume several drinks per day. All of these drugs treat symptoms but don't necessarily make you better faster or prevent pneumonia.

Good catch, my mistake. And you are correct - they abate symptoms only. guaifenesin hasn't been shown to conclusively help in clinical trials but doesn't hurt if are in a high risk category.

"If you don't have a headache or body aches, you don't need acetaminophen"

For me acetaminophen helps a great deal relieving sore throat, which often goes hand in hand with other cold symptoms.

Pointless medication. The only point of this medication is to mask the symptoms so you can fake being healthy to going to work. This only temporarily suppresses symptoms. It does nothing to help you get better.
Yeah what kind of idiot would want to feel a little better while they're sick.

Might be easier to sleep if you can deal with symptoms.
