The active ingredient are NaOH and NaClO, essentially the same as baking soda (NaHCO3). all of them are safe to PVC pipes and all of them will damage rubber pipes.

Nope that combo doesn't do much but clear up clog at the top.

That sounds like a huge pain in the ass though. I'd rather do this and be done in 10-15 seconds.
Directions
Slowly pour the entire bottle of Hair Clog Eliminator down the drain. Wait 15 minutes. Flush with hot water. Do not use in toilets or garbage disposals.
this is just a diluted version in gel type. regular maintenance is fine, but if its already pretty bad, it wont do much.
